Steering Lock System -- Precaution |
1.PRECAUTIONS WHEN CHECKING FOR DTCS |
When the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, the DTCs stored in the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) are cleared. Be sure to record any output DTCs immediately.
When using the GTS with the engine switch off, connect the GTS to the DLC3 and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the GTS and the vehicle begins. Then select the vehicle type under manual mode and enter the following menus:
Body Electrical / Entry&Start. While using the GTS, periodically turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less to maintain communication between the GTS and the vehicle.
2.PRECAUTION WHEN BATTERY VOLTAGE IS LOW OR AFTER DISCONNECTING AND RECONNECTING CABLE TO NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL |
After the cable is disconnected and reconnected to the negative (-) battery terminal, or when the battery voltage is low, once the battery is restored to its normal state, if the driver door is not opened and then closed with the engine switch off, the steering lock may not be able to be released and the engine may not be able to start.
3.PRECAUTIONS WHEN REPLACING STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) |
If the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) is replaced, be sure to confirm that the steering is unlocked by turning the steering wheel to the left and right before starting the engine. If the steering is locked for any reason, open and close a door with the engine switch off, and then unlock the steering lock by pressing the engine switch. This prevents the engine from starting while the steering is locked.
4.PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION |
If replacing any of the following parts, refer to Service Bulletin.
ID code box (Immobiliser code ECU)
Certification ECU (Smart key ECU assembly)
Steering lock ECU (Steering lock actuator assembly)
ECM
Electrical key transmitter sub-assembly
Main body ECU (Multiplex network body ECU)
5.PRECAUTIONS FOR STEERING LOCK / UNLOCK FUNCTION |
After turning the engine switch off and opening and closing any of the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock function. Operating the engine switch again automatically cancels the steering lock function.
To prevent the steering lock motor from overheating, the motor operation may be suspended if the steering is locked and unlocked repeatedly in a short period of time. In this case, refrain from operating the engine switch. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
