Front Drive Shaft Assembly Disassembly

  1. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT SET SETTING SHAFT SNAP RING

  2. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  3. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  4. DISCONNECT FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT

  5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT SET LH

  6. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  7. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  8. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT

  9. REMOVE DUST SEAL

  10. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

Front Drive Shaft Assembly -- Disassembly


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
NOTICE:
  1. When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.
  2. When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
  3. Do not allow brake fluid, front differential oil, gasoline, or battery fluid to contact the front axle inboard joint boot and front axle outboard joint boot, as the front axle inboard joint boot and front axle outboard joint boot may be damaged.


1. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT SET SETTING SHAFT SNAP RING


    Land Cruiser. Urj200, 202 Grj200 Vdj200

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring from the inboard joint shaft.

    CAUTION:
    Do not damage the spline of the front axle inboard joint set LH.


2. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP


    Land Cruiser. Urj200, 202 Grj200 Vdj200

  1. Using a screwdriver, release the staked part of the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot setting clamp and disconnect the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot setting clamp as shown in the illustration.



3. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  1. Using a side cutter, cut the front No. 1 axle inboard joint boot setting clamp and disconnect it.



4. DISCONNECT FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT

  1. Disconnect the front axle inboard joint boot from the front axle inboard joint set LH.



5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT SET LH

  1. Remove any old grease from the front axle inboard joint set LH.

  1. Place matchmarks on the front axle inboard joint set LH and outboard joint shaft.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

  1. Remove the front axle inboard joint set LH from the outboard joint shaft.

  1. Place matchmarks on the outboard joint shaft, inner race and cage.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

  1. Remove the 6 balls.

  1. Slide the cage to the outboard joint side.

  1. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

  1. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the inner race.

    NOTICE:
    Do not damage the inner race.

  1. Remove the cage.

  1. Remove the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot setting clamp and front No. 1 axle inboard joint boot setting clamp, front axle inboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft.



6. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP

  1. Using a side cutter, cut the front No. 1 axle outboard joint boot setting clamp and disconnect it.



7. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT SETTING CLAMP
HINT:
Use the same procedure described for the front No. 1 axle outboard joint boot setting clamp.


8. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT

  1. Remove any old grease from the front axle outboard joint boot.

  1. Remove the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot setting clamp and front axle outboard joint boot, front No. 1 axle outboard joint boot setting clamp from the outboard joint shaft.



9. REMOVE DUST SEAL

  1. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, remove the dust seal.

    NOTICE:
    Do not drop the outboard joint shaft.


10. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

  1. Using SST and a press, press out the front drive shaft dust cover LH.

    Do not drop the front axle inboard joint set LH.
