DTC P1601 Injector Correction Circuit Malfunction (EEPROM)

DESCRIPTION

P1601
DTC Detection Drive Pattern
DTC Detection Condition
Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 1 seconds
When either condition below is met (1 trip detection logic):
  1. Injector compensation code is not registered.
  2. Wrong injector compensation code is registered.
  1. Injector compensation code
  2. ECM
NOTICE:
  1. When an injector assembly is replaced, the new injector compensation code must be input into the ECM. When the ECM is replaced, all of the existing injector compensation codes must be input into the new ECM.
  2. Injector compensation codes are unique, 30-digit, alphanumeric values printed on the head portion of each injector assembly. If an incorrect injector compensation code is input into the ECM, the engine assembly may rattle or engine idling may become rough. In addition, engine failure may occur and the life of the engine may be shortened.
HINT:
When replacing the ECM with a new one, if the injector compensation codes are not entered, DTC P1601 will be stored.

When replacing the ECM with a new one, input all injector compensation codes into the new ECM as follows:
  1. Prior to replacing the ECM, use the intelligent tester to read and save each injector compensation code from the original ECM (Click here).

  2. After installing a new ECM, input the saved compensation codes into the new ECM using the GTS (Click here).

  3. Turn the ignition switch off and then turn the GTS off.

  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.

  5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and then turn the GTS on.

  6. Clear DTC P1601 stored in the ECM using the GTS (Click here).

    HINT:
    1. Each injector assembly has different fuel injection characteristics. In order to optimize the fuel injections, the ECM uses the injector compensation codes to balance the different fuel injections between each injector assembly.
    2. When you first turn on (IG) the ignition switch after replacing the ECM or a injector assembly(s), DTC P1601 is stored. If a injector assembly was replaced, the compensation code for the new injector assembly will need to be registered in the ECM. If the ECM was replaced, the compensation codes for the injector assemblies must be registered to the new ECM. Manually clear the DTC upon completion of compensation code registration.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization (Click here).
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK INJECTOR COMPENSATION CODE
  1. Read the injector compensation codes (Click here).

    OK:
Compensation codes stored in the ECM match compensation codes of the installed injector assemblies.

2.REPLACE ECM
  1. Replace the ECM (Click here).

Go to step 4

3.PERFORM REGISTRATION OF INJECTOR COMPENSATION CODE
  1. Perform registration of the injector compensation code (Click here).

4.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Clear the DTCs (Click here).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off and leave the vehicle for 15 seconds.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON for 1 second.

  1. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.

    HINT:
Perform the following procedure using the GTS to determine whether or not the DTC judgment has been carried out.
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.

    2. Input DTC P1601.

    3. Check that STATUS is NORMAL. If STATUS is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, idle the engine.
