DTC P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A"

DESCRIPTION

Vehicles, which are equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), detect the vehicle speed using the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) and speed sensor. The speed sensor monitors the wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU converts the wheel speed signal into a 4-pulse signal and transmits it to the ECM via the combination meter assembly. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on the frequency of the pulse signal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
  1. Inspect the fuses of circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
  2. After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization (Click here).
  3. After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization (Click here).
  4. After replacing an injector assembly, the ECM needs registration (Click here).
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK OPERATION OF SPEEDOMETER
  1. Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer in the combination meter assembly is normal.

    HINT:
The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer reading is normal.
    OK:
The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally.

OK

2.READ VALUE USING GTS (VEHICLE SPEED)
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and start the engine.

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Vehicle Speed.

  1. Drive the vehicle.

  1. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

    OK:
Vehicle speed displayed on GTS and speedometer display are equal.
