Stop the engine, leave the vehicle as is for 1 to 2 hours and confirm that "Exhaust Temperature B1S2, B2S2" is approximately the same value as "Intake Air".
| All conditions are met (2 trip detection logic): (a) The battery voltage is 8 V or higher. (b) After the engine is stopped and the vehicle is left as is for 10 hours or more, the difference between "Exhaust Temperature B1S2, B2S2" and "Coolant Temp" is 400°C (752 °F) or more when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

- HINT:
- Sensor 2 represents the sensor located upstream of the DPF catalytic converter.
- Sensor 3 represents the sensor located downstream of the DPF catalytic converter.
- If DTC P2084, P2086, P242B and/or P2467 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:
- White smoke
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM compares the values from the No. 2 exhaust temperature sensors (B1S2), No. 4 exhaust temperature sensors (B1S3), and No. 3 exhaust temperature sensors (B2S2), No. 4 exhaust temperature sensors (B2S3) with the engine coolant temperature when the ignition switch is turned to ON after the vehicle has been left soaking for 10 hours or more. If the difference is 400°C (752 °F) or more, a DTC indicating an exhaust gas temperature sensor malfunction is stored and the MIL is illuminated (2 trip detection logic).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- NOTICE:
- After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization (Click here).
- After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization (Click here).
- After replacing an injector assembly, the ECM needs registration (Click here).
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Read DTCs.

2.READ VALUE USING GTS (EXHAUST TEMPERATURE) |
Leave the vehicle as is for 1 to 2 hours with the engine stopped.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Data List / Exhaust Temperature B1S2, Exhaust Temperature B2S2, Exhaust Temperature B1S3 and Exhaust Temperature B2S3.
Read the values.

- HINT:
- If the exhaust gas temperature sensor is normal, the exhaust gas temperature drops when the vehicle is left as is for 1 to 2 hours with the engine stopped. If the exhaust gas temperature does not drop, the exhaust gas temperature sensor may be malfunctioning.
3.READ VALUE USING GTS (ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE) |
Allow the engine to soak for 1 to 2 hours.
- HINT:
- It is not necessary to allow the engine to soak if the engine is cold.
- The engine cools faster if the hood is opened.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Engine and ECT / Data List / Coolant temp.
Read the value.
- OK:
- The difference between the displayed value and outside air temperature is below 5°C (9°F).
- NOTICE:
- If the difference between "Coolant Temp" and the outside air temperature is 5°C (9°F) or higher, the heat from the engine affects the intake air temperature sensor, causing an incorrect value to be displayed. In this case, allow the engine to soak again.

Inspect the engine coolant temperature sensor (Click here).
5.REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR |
Replace the engine coolant temperature sensor (Click here).
Replace the ECM (Click here).
7.REPLACE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR |
- When DTC P2084 is output:
Replace the No. 2 exhaust gas temperature sensor (B1S2) (Click here).
- When DTC P2086 is output:
Replace the No. 3 exhaust gas temperature sensor (B2S2) (Click here).
- When DTC P242B is output:
Replace the No. 4 exhaust gas temperature sensor (B1S3) (Click here).
- When DTC P2467 is output:
Replace the No. 4 exhaust gas temperature sensor (B2S3) (Click here).
8.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED |
Leave the vehicle as is for 1 to 2 hours with the engine stopped.
- HINT:
- It is not necessary to allow the engine to soak if the engine is cold.
