  1. INSTALL STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  2. INSTALL STEERING MAIN SHAFT BEARING

  3. INSTALL KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID (for Automatic Transmission)

  4. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  5. INSTALL UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  6. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

  7. INSPECT STEERING LOCK OPERATION

  8. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER WITH SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY

  9. INSTALL TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER (w/ Engine Immobiliser System)

  10. INSTALL KEY CYLINDER LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/ Key Cylinder Light)

  11. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING WITH COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY

Steering Column Assembly -- Reassembly


NOTICE:
  1. When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.
  2. When using a vise, do not overtighten it.


1. INSTALL STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  1. Using a snap ring expander, install a new inner steering main shaft snap ring to the steering main shaft.

  1. Install the steering main shaft to the steering column tube.

  1. Secure the steering column tube with a vise.

  1. Using a snap ring expander, install a new outer steering main shaft snap ring.



2. INSTALL STEERING MAIN SHAFT BEARING

  1. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the bearing until it is flush with the edge of the steering column tube.

3. INSTALL KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID (for Automatic Transmission)

  1. Install the solenoid to the steering column upper bracket with the 2 screws.



4. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Attach the 2 claws to install the switch to the steering column upper bracket.



5. INSTALL UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Attach the 2 claws to install the switch to the steering column upper bracket.



6. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

  1. Make sure that the lock cylinder is in the ACC position.

  1. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder.



7. INSPECT STEERING LOCK OPERATION

  1. Check that the steering lock mechanism is activated when the key is removed.

  1. Check that the steering lock mechanism is deactivated when the key is inserted and turned to the ACC position.
    If there is any abnormality, replace the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly.



8. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER WITH SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY

  1. Install the steering column upper bracket and steering column upper clamp with 2 new tapered-head bolts.

  1. Tighten the 2 tapered-head bolts until the bolt heads break off.



9. INSTALL TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER (w/ Engine Immobiliser System)

  1. Connect the connector.

  1. Push in the transponder key amplifier in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration to install it.



10. INSTALL KEY CYLINDER LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/ Key Cylinder Light)

  1. Connect the connector.

  1. Push in the transponder key amplifier in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration to install it.



11. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING WITH COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Align the matchmarks on the yoke and steering main shaft.

  1. Install the steering yoke with the bolt.

    Torque:
    28 N*m{286 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf}
