Front Drive Shaft Assembly Disassembly

  1. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP

  2. DISCONNECT INBOARD JOINT BOOT

  3. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT

  4. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP

  5. REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT

  6. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER

  7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL

Front Drive Shaft Assembly -- Disassembly


NOTICE:
  1. When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.
  2. When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


1. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP


Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Using pliers, detach the claw and remove the large clamp.



    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Using pliers, remove the small boot clamp.



2. DISCONNECT INBOARD JOINT BOOT

  1. Disconnect the inboard joint boot from the inboard joint.



3. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT

  1. Remove any old grease from the inboard joint.

  1. Place matchmarks on the tripod, and the inboard and outboard joints.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

  1. Remove the inboard joint from the outboard joint.

  1. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

  1. Place matchmarks on the outboard joint and tripod.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

  1. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap off the tripod from the outboard joint.

    NOTICE:
    Do not tap the rollers.

  1. Remove the joint boot.



4. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Using pliers, remove the boot clamps as shown in the illustration.



5. REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT

  1. Remove the outboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft.

  1. Remove any old grease from the outboard joint shaft.



6. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER

  1. Using SST and a press, press out the dust cover.

7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL


Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the dust seal.
