INSPECTION PROCEDURE

  1. After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TJ400AX.html) and initialization (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TIN009X.html).
  2. After replacing a supply pump, the ECM needs initialization (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TIN009X.html).
  3. After replacing an injector, the ECM needs registration (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TJ400AX.html).

Specified values in the following troubleshooting flowchart are for reference only. Variations in the Data List values may occur depending on the measuring conditions or the vehicle's age. Do not assume the vehicle is normal when the Data List outputs standard values. There may be concealed factors of the malfunction.

  1. Reconnect the inlet hose.

  1. Read the value.

    Standard value:
    Between 75 and 95°C (167 and 203°F) with warm engine.

  1. Remove the ST relay from the No. 8 relay block.

  1. Disconnect the A12 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    ST relay terminal 1 - A12-43 (STA)
    Below 1 Ω
    ST relay terminal 1 or A12-43 (STA) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reinstall the ST relay.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

w/o Entry and start system:
  1. Inspect the STA fuse.

    1. Remove the STA fuse from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard resistance:
      Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the STA fuse.

  1. Check the wire harness between the ignition switch and ECM.

    1. Disconnect the E5 ignition switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the A12 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance:
      Tester Connection
      Specified Condition
      E5-8 (ST2) - A12-43 (STA)
      Below 1 Ω
      E5-8 (ST2) or A12-43 (STA) - Body ground
      10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ignition switch.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Measure the resistance of the sensor.

    Standard resistance:

    2.32 to 2.59 kΩ
    80°C (176°F)
    0.310 to 0.326 kΩ
    ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ:
    When checking the sensor in water, keep the terminals dry. After the check, wipe the sensor dry.
    УКАЗАНИЕ:
    Alternative procedure: Connect an ohmmeter to the installed ECT sensor and read the resistance. Use an infrared thermometer to measure the engine temperature in the immediate vicinity of the sensor. Compare these values against the resistance/ temperature graph. Change the engine temperature (warm up or cool down) and repeat the test.
  1. Reconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Reconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
