Park / Neutral Position Switch -- Adjustment



1. ADJUST PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Move the shift lever to N.

  1. Remove the bolt of the park/neutral position switch assembly.

  1. Clean the bolt and the bolt hole.

  1. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads on the end of the bolt.

    Adhesive:
    Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent

  1. Align the neutral basic line with the groove as shown in the illustration.

  1. Hold the switch in position and tighten the bolt.

    Torque:
    13 N*m{130 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}


2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start in other positions.

  1. Check that the back-up light illuminates and the reverse warning buzzer sounds only when the shift lever is in R.
