Automatic Transaxle Unit (For Hatchback) -- Inspection

1. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH DISC

Check whether the sliding surface of the direct clutch disc, rear clutch flange and direct clutch flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

2. INSPECT 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE DISC

Check to see if the sliding surface of the 1st and reverse brake disc, 1st and reverse brake plate and 1st and reverse brake flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

3. INSPECT 2ND BRAKE BRAKE DISC

Check whether the sliding surfaces of the 2nd brake brake disc, No. 1 2nd brake brake flange and 2nd brake brake flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

4. INSPECT 2ND COAST AND OVERDRIVE BRAKE DISC

Check whether the sliding surfaces of the 2nd coast and overdrive brake disc, No. 2 2nd coast and overdrive brake flange and 2nd coast and overdrive brake flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed number is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

5. INSPECT FRONT CLUTCH CLUTCH DISC

Check whether the sliding surface of the front clutch clutch disc, No. 1 clutch plate and forward clutch flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed number is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

6. INSPECT REVERSE CLUTCH DISC

Check whether the sliding surfaces of the reverse clutch disc, No. 3 clutch plate and reverse clutch flange are worn or burnt.
NOTICE:
1. If the lining of the disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
2. Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS for at least 15 minutes.
If necessary, replace them.

7. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.
Standard free length:
32.9 mm (1.2953 in.)
If the free length is shorter than the standard free length, replace the direct clutch return spring sub-assembly.

8. INSPECT 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.
Standard free length:
13.96 mm (0.5496 in.)
If the free length is shorter than the standard free length, replace the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly.

9. INSPECT 2ND BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.
Standard free length:
14.65 mm (0.5768 in.)
If the free length is shorter than the standard free length, replace the 2nd brake piston return spring sub-assembly.

10. INSPECT OVERDRIVE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.
Standard free length:
17.88 mm (0.7039 in.)
If the free length is shorter than the standard free length, replace the overdrive brake return spring sub-assembly.

11. INSPECT FORWARD CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.
Standard free length:
21.69 mm (0.8540 in.)
If the free length is shorter than the standard free length, replace the forward clutch return spring sub-assembly.

12. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH PISTON SUB-ASSEMBLY

Apply low pressure compressed air to the check ball and check that no air leakage is identified.
If necessary, replace the direct clutch piston sub-assembly.

13. INSPECT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY

Apply low pressure compressed air to the check ball and check that no air leakage is identified.
If necessary, replace the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
