Transmission Wire -- Removal |
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM00000315Z05EX.html).
2. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID |
Remove the drain plug and gasket to drain the ATF.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 49 N*m{500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf}
3. REMOVE BATTERY |
Remove the bolt, nut and battery clamp.

Remove the battery and battery insulator.
4. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER |
Remove the battery tray.
Separate the 2 wire harness clamps from the battery carrier.

Remove the 4 bolts and battery carrier.
5. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the transmission oil level gauge sub-assembly.

Disconnect the transmission wire connector, park/neutral position switch connector and 2 wire harness clamps.
Remove the bolt and transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.
Remove the O-ring from the transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.
6. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH |
7. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 18 bolts, oil pan and gasket.
- NOTICE:
- Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Remove all the pan bolts, and carefully remove the oil pan assembly.

Remove the 2 magnets from the oil pan.

Examine particles in the pan.
Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Look carefully at the chips and particles in the pan and on the magnets to see the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.
- Result:
- Steel (magnetic):
- bearing, gear and plate wear
- Brass (non-magnetic):
- bushing wear

8. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE |
Disconnect the 7 shift solenoid valve connectors.

Remove the bolt and lock plate to disconnect the ATF temperature sensor.
9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE |
Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

Remove the bolt and transmission wire.
Remove the O-ring from the transmission wire.
