DTC B1651/33 Manual Cut off Switch Trouble


DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag manual cut-off switch circuit consists of parts including the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut-off switch.
DTC B1651/33 is set when a malfunction is detected in the airbag cut-off switch circuit.

  1. Center airbag sensor detects line short signal, open signal, short to ground signal or short to B+ signal in airbag cut-off switch circuit for 2 seconds
  2. Airbag cut-off switch malfunction

  2. Passenger airbag manual cut-off switch
  3. Center airbag sensor

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.CHECK FOR DTC

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

  1. Clear the DTCs (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFE06SX.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Check the DTCs (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFE06SX.html).

    OK:
    DTC B1651/33 is not output.
    HINT:
    DTCs other than DTC B1651/33 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

2.CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut-off switch.

    OK:
    The connectors are properly connected.

3.INSPECT AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH

  1. Disconnect the E68 passenger airbag manual cut-off switch connector.

  1. Measure the resistance of the switch.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    		Switch Condition
    		Specified Condition
    1 (PMC-) - 2 (PMC+)
    		OFF
    		80 to 120 Ω
    1 (PMC-) - 2 (PMC+)
    		ON
    		320 to 480 Ω

4.CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (FOR OPEN)

  1. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the airbag cut-off switch.

  1. Using a service wire, connect E68-1 (PMC-) and E68-2 (PMC+) of connector C.

    NOTICE:
    Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

  1. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    		Specified Condition
    E49-11 (MSW+) - E49-12 (MSW-)
    		Below 1 Ω

5.CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (FOR SHORT)

  1. Disconnect the service wire from connector C.

  1. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    		Specified Condition
    E49-11 (MSW+) - E49-12 (MSW-)
    		1 MΩ or higher

6.CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (TO B+)

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

  1. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

    Standard voltage:
    Tester Connection
    		Specified Condition
    E49-11 (MSW+)- Body ground
    		Below 1 V
    E49-12 (MSW-) - Body ground
    		Below 1 V

7.CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (TO GROUND)

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    E49-11 (MSW+) - Body ground
    		1 MΩ or higher
    E49-12 (MSW-) - Body ground
    		1 MΩ or higher

8.CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

  1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor and airbag cut-off switch.

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Clear the DTCs (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFE06SX.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Check the DTCs (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFE06SX.html).

    OK:
    DTC B1651/33 is not output.
    HINT:
    DTCs other than DTC B1651/33 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
