  1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  4. REMOVE TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  5. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE

  6. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE

  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

  8. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL

  9. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL

  10. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY

  11. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  12. REMOVE AIR DUCT REAR

  13. REMOVE AIR DUCT

  14. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY

  15. REMOVE DRAIN COOLER HOSE

  16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT

  17. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY

Air Conditioning Unit -- Removal



1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Turn the A/C switch on.

  1. Operate the cooler compressor while the engine speed is approximately 1000 rpm for 5 to 6 minutes to circulate the refrigerant and collect the compressor oil remaining in each component into the cooler compressor.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system using a refrigerant recovery unit.

2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
For 1AZ-FE, refer to the following procedures (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001YMM00SX_01_0002.html).
For 2GR-FE, refer to the following procedures (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001YMM00TX_01_0002.html).
For 2AZ-FE, refer to the following procedures (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001YMM00UX_01_0003.html).
For 3ZR-FAE, refer to the following procedures (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001YMM00YX_01_0010.html).


3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


4. REMOVE TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the bolt.

  1. Remove plate, as shown in the illustration.

  1. Disconnect the suction tube and liquid tube.

    NOTICE:
    1. Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool to disconnect the tube.

      Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

  1. Remove the 2 O-rings from the suction tube and liquid tube.



5. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE

  1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip.

  1. Disconnect the heater water inlet hose.



6. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE
HINT:
Disconnection of the heater water outlet hose is the same as for the heater water inlet hose.


7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the steering column (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000UCZ01WX.html).



8. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL

  1. Remove the upper instrument panel (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001RHD00JX.html).



9. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL

  1. Remove the lower instrument panel (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001RHJ00GX.html).



10. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Detach the 3 claws and remove the defroster nozzle.



11. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Fold the floor carpet back.

  1. Disconnect the clamp and disconnect the wire harness.

  1. Remove the bolt, nut, screw, and instrument panel brace.



12. REMOVE AIR DUCT REAR

  1. Disconnect the 2 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

  1. Detach the 3 claws and remove the air duct rear.



13. REMOVE AIR DUCT

  1. Detach the 2 claws and remove the air duct.



14. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY

  1. Detach the 2 clamps.

  1. Disconnect the connector.

  1. Remove the screw and air conditioning amplifier.



15. REMOVE DRAIN COOLER HOSE

  1. Remove the drain hose.



16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT


  1. Disconnect the 12 clamps.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and disconnect the ground wire.

  1. Remove the 3 bolts.

  1. Remove the 6 bolts and instrument panel reinforcement.

17. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the bolt, nut and air conditioning unit.
