CHECK SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY (w/o Entry and Start System)

- HINT:
- The type of ignition switch on this model differs according to the specifications of the vehicle. For the expressions used in this section, refer to the ''EXPRESSION OF IGNITION SWITCH'' precaution (RAV4_ACA30 RM00000215G00JX.html).
| 1. CHECK SHIFT LOCK OPERATION |
Move the shift lever to P.
Turn the ignition switch off.
Check that the shift lever cannot be moved to any position other than P.
Turn the ignition switch on (IG), depress the brake pedal and check that the shift lever can be moved to other positions.
| 2. CHECK SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION |
When operating the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the lever can be moved to any position other than P. If the operation cannot be performed as specified, check the shift lever assembly.
| 3. CHECK KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION (w/o Entry and Start System) |
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to any position other than P.
Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK position.
Move the shift lever to P, turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and check that the ignition key can be removed. If the results are not as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.

Measure the voltage of the connector.
- HINT:
- Do not disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.
- Standard voltage:
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 4 (STP) - 1 (E) Depress brake pedal 10 to 14 V 4 (STP) - 1 (E) Release brake pedal Below 1 V 8 (IG) - 1 (E) Ignition switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V 8 (IG) - 1 (E) Ignition switch off Below 1 V
Measure the resistance of the connector.
- HINT:
- Do not disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.
- Standard resistance:
Tester Connection Measuring Condition Specified Condition 1 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
