DESCRIPTION

The air cleaner is equipped with two inlets, one of which is opened or closed by the Air Intake Control Valve (AICV). This system reduces intake noise and increases engine power at low to high engine speed range.
When the engine is operating in the low-to-mid speed range, this control operates the AICV to close one of the air cleaner inlets. When the engine speed is more than 3600 rpm and the opening angle of the throttle valve is more than 60°, the ECM activates the VSV and opens the AICV.

The following conditions are met simultaneously for 0.5 seconds or more (2 trip detection logic):
  1. Voltage of terminal ACIS of the ECM is low when the VSV is OFF
  2. The engine has been started
  1. Open or short in air intake control valve circuit
  2. Air intake control valve
  3. ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (VSV FOR AICV)

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the intelligent tester on.

  1. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Active the VSV for ACIS and operate the VSV for AICV.

  1. Check the operation of the VSV when the VSV is operated by the intelligent tester.

    Standard:
    Tester Operation
    Specified Condition
    VSV is ON
    Air from port E flows out through port F
    VSV is OFF
    Air from port E flows out through the air filter

Go to step 4

2.CHECK VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (FOR ACIV)
  1. Inspect the VSV for ACIV(RAV4_ACA30 RM0000028LQ00BX.html).

REPLACE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (FOR ACIV)

3.INSPECT VSV FOR ACIV (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)

  1. Disconnect the VSV for ACIV connector.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    1 - Body ground
    9 to 14 V
  1. Reconnect the VSV for ACIV connector.

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM)

  1. Disconnect the VSV for AICV connector.

  1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the wire harness side connectors and body ground.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    VSV for AICV (B65-2) - ACIV (A12-4)
    Below 1 Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    VSV for AICV (B65-2) or ACIV (A12-4) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.
