Steering Wheel -- Removal |
- CAUTION:
- Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering wheel (LandCruiser RM000000KT10NVX.html).
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
- The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.
| 1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
| 2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (LandCruiser RM000003YMF011X.html).
| 3. REMOVE NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL LOWER COVER |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the cover.

| 4. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL LOWER COVER |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the cover.

| 5. REMOVE STEERING PAD |
Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.
- NOTICE:
- When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

Disconnect the horn connector.
Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.
- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
| 6. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT |
Remove the 2 screws.
 |
Detach the claw, 3 guide pins and then remove the ornament.
| 7. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT |
Remove the 2 screws.
Detach the claw, 3 guide pins and then remove the ornament.
- HINT:
- Refer to "Remove No. 1 Steering Wheel Ornament".
| 8. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Pad Switch) |
Disconnect the connector.
Remove the 4 screws.
Detach the 2 claws, 6 guide pins and then remove the steering pad switch assembly.
- HINT:
- Refer to "Remove No. 1 Steering Wheel Ornament".
| 9. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH RH (w/ Steering Pad Switch) |
Disconnect the connector.
Remove the 2 screws.
Detach the claw, 3 guide pins and steering pad switch RH.
- HINT:
- Refer to "Remove No. 1 Steering Wheel Ornament".
| 10. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (w/ Cruise Control System) |
Disconnect the connector.
 |
Remove the 2 screws and switch.
| 11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Heater) |
Disconnect the 2 connectors and connector clamp.
 |
Remove the 2 screws and steering wheel heater control assembly.
| 12. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
Remove the steering wheel set nut.
Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.
