Front Brake -- Installation

HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. INSTALL FRONT DISC
  1. Align the matchmarks and install the front disc.

    HINT:
    When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the disc has the smallest runout.

2. INSTALL DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
  1. Install the disc brake cylinder assembly with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    185 N*m{1886 kgf*cm, 136 ft.*lbf}
  1. Using a union nut wrench, connect the brake tube to the disc brake cylinder assembly.

    Torque:
    15 N*m{155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf}
    NOTICE:
    Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where a union nut wrench is combined with a torque wrench (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).

3. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 ANTI SQUEAL SHIM
NOTICE:
If necessary, replace the anti-squeal shim when replacing the brake pad.
  1. Install the front No. 1 anti-squeal shims to the front disc brake pads.

    NOTICE:
    There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the front disc brake pads and the front disc.

4. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD
  1. Install the 2 front disc brake pads to the disc brake cylinder.

  1. Install the anti-rattle spring between the 2 front disc brake pads.

    NOTICE:
    The anti-rattle spring can be reused if it has sufficient rebound; no deformation, cracks or wear; and has had all rust, dirt and foreign matter cleaned off.
  1. Install the 2 hole pins.

  1. Install the pin hold clip.

    NOTICE:
    The pin hold clip can be reused if has sufficient rebound; no deformation or wear; and has had all rust, dirt and foreign matter cleaned off.

5. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for Hydraulic Brake Booster)
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid until the fluid level is between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir.

  1. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder RH.

  1. Repeat the step above until the air is completely bled, and then tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

    Torque:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
  1. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.

  1. With the brake pedal depressed, loosen the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder RH, continue to hold the brake pedal and allow brake fluid to be drained from the bleeder plug while the pump motor operates.

    HINT:
    1. Air is bled as the pump motor operates while the brake pedal is being depressed.
    2. Be sure to release the brake pedal to stop the motor after approximately 100 seconds of continuous operation.
    3. As brake fluid is continuously drained while the pump operates, it is not necessary to repeatedly depress the brake pedal.
  1. When there is no more air in the brake fluid, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.

    Torque:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
  1. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check and adjust the brake fluid level (LandCruiser RM0000012XQ041X.html).

  1. Clear the DTCs (LandCruiser RM0000046KV016X.html).

6. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for Vacuum Brake Booster)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid until the fluid level is between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir.

  1. Loosen the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder RH.

  1. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder RH.

    NOTICE:
    Add fluid as necessary so that the fluid in the reservoir does not decrease below the MIN level.
  1. After air is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

    Torque:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
  1. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.

  1. Loosen the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder RH.

  1. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder RH.

    NOTICE:
    Add fluid as necessary so that the fluid in the reservoir does not decrease below the MIN level.
  1. After air is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

    Torque:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
  1. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.

  1. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check and adjust the brake fluid level (LandCruiser RM000000SRG05FX_03_0006.html).

  1. Check and clear the DTCs (LandCruiser RM000000XHV0KEX.html for VSC).

7. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque:
for Aluminum Wheel:
103 N*m{1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf}
for Steel Wheel:
112 N*m{1137 kgf*cm, 82 ft.*lbf}
