Oil Pump -- Removal |
1. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY |
2. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.

Remove the 4 bolts and 4 ignition coil assemblies.

3. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the connector from the generator assembly.

Remove the terminal cap.
Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal B.
Remove the 3 bolts and generator assembly.

4. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 2 bolts and V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.

5. REMOVE NO. 1 COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BRACKET |
Remove the 5 bolts and No. 1 compressor mounting bracket.

6. REMOVE WATER INLET |
Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, and then remove the water inlet.

Remove the gasket from the timing chain cover sub-assembly.
7. REMOVE THERMOSTAT |
Remove the thermostat from the timing chain cover sub-assembly.

Remove the gasket from the thermostat.
8. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD |
9. REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the bolt, No. 1 idler pulley sub-assembly and spacer.

10. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Intake Side) |
Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

Remove the bolt and camshaft position sensor.
11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Exhaust Side) |
Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

Remove the bolt and camshaft position sensor.
12. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side) |
Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
13. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR |
Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector and detach the wire harness clamp.

Remove the bolt and crankshaft position sensor.

14. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE |
w/ Engine Oil Cooler:
Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 6 water by-pass hose from the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.Text in Illustration *A w/o Engine Oil Cooler *B w/ Engine Oil Cooler

Remove the 2 nuts, bolt, No. 1 water by-pass pipe and gasket.
15. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Slide the clip and disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve sub-assembly.
Remove the 21 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers, 2 seal washers and cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

Remove the gasket from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.
Remove the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap oil hole gasket from the cylinder head cover spacer.
16. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY |
Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley and loosen the pulley bolt until 2 or 3 threads are screwed into the crankshaft.

Using SST and the pulley bolt, remove the crankshaft pulley.

- Apply lubricant to the threads and end of SST.

17. REMOVE OIL PAN COVER SILENCER |
Remove the 2 No. 1 oil pan plugs and oil pan cover silencer.
18. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.

Remove the 16 bolts, 2 adjusting screws, and 2 nuts.
Insert the blade of an oil pan seal cutter between the oil pans. Cut through the applied sealer and remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the oil pans.

19. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 16 bolts and 2 nuts.

Remove the oil pan sub-assembly by prying between the oil pan sub-assembly and cylinder block with a screwdriver.

Remove the gasket from the oil strainer sub-assembly.
20. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 16 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.

Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, remove the timing chain cover sub-assembly by prying the points in the illustration.

Remove the 3 O-rings from the timing chain cover sub-assembly.

21. REMOVE ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 8 bolts, engine water pump assembly and gasket.

22. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER OIL SEAL |
Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, pry out the timing chain cover oil seal from the timing chain cover sub-assembly.
