Inspect the vehicle's ECM using check mode. Intermittent problems are easier to detect when the ECM is in check mode with the intelligent tester. In check mode, the ECM uses 1 trip detection logic, which has a higher sensitivity to malfunctions than normal mode (default), which uses 2 trip detection logic.

Check for intermittent problems.

  1. Clear the DTCs (Toyota Fortuner RM0000012WY00RX.html).

  2. Change the ECM from normal mode to check mode using the intelligent tester (Toyota Fortuner RM0000012WZ00QX.html).

  3. Perform a simulation test (Toyota Fortuner RM0000012Q9013X.html).

  4. Check the connector and terminal (Toyota Fortuner RM000000UZ3019X.html).

  5. Wiggle the harness and the connector (Toyota Fortuner RM000000UZ3019X.html).
