Back Door Glass -- Installation |
1. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS CLIP AND SPACER |
Apply Primer G to the installation part of the clips.
- HINT:
- If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with non-residue solvent before it dries.
Install the 3 new spacers and 2 new clips onto the glass as shown in the illustration.
- NOTICE:
- Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Throw away any leftover primer.
- Do not apply too much primer.
2. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS ADHESIVE DAM |

Apply Primer G to the glass where the adhesive dam will be installed.
- NOTICE:
- Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Throw away any leftover primer.
- Do not apply too much primer.
- Standard:
Area Specified Condition a 10.0 mm (0.394 in.)
Remove the peeling paper from the adhesive part of the dam. Install the dam (adhesive side) to the glass (Primer G area) as shown in the illustration.
- Standard:
Area Specified Condition a 3.2 mm (0.126 in.) b 11.2 mm (0.441 in.) c 4.0 mm (0.157 in.)
Remove the peeling paper from the adhesive part of the dam. Install the dam (adhesive side) to the glass (Primer G area) as shown in the illustration.
- Standard:
Area Specified Condition a 3.8 mm (0.150 in.) b 9.0 mm (0.354 in.)
3. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OPENING TRIM |
Install the back window opening trim.
4. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS |

Using a brush or sponge, apply Primer M to the exposed part of the vehicle body.
- NOTICE:
- Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not apply primer to the adhesive.
- Throw away any leftover primer.
- Do not apply too much primer.
Using a brush or sponge, apply Primer G to the contact surface of the back door glass.
- Standard:
Area Specified Condition a 14.0 mm (0.551 in.) b 16.2 mm (0.638 in.) c 8.0 mm (0.315 in.)
- HINT:
- If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with non-residue solvent before it dries.
- NOTICE:
- Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Throw away any leftover primer.
- Do not apply too much primer.
Apply adhesive to the back door glass.
- Adhesive:
- Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent
Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration below.
- HINT:
- After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time written in the table below.
- Usage Time Frame:
Temperature Usage Time Frame 35°C (95°F) 15 minutes 20°C (68°F) 1 hour 40 minutes 5°C (41°F) 8 hours
Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.
Apply adhesive to the back door glass as shown in the illustration.
- Standard:
Area Specified Condition a 12.0 mm (0.472 in.) b 8.0 mm (0.315 in.) c 14.0 mm (0.551 in.) d 16.2 mm (0.638 in.)
Install the back door glass to the vehicle body.
Hold the back window glass in place securely with tape or equivalent until the adhesive has hardened.
- NOTICE:
- Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Check that the clips are attached to the vehicle body correctly.
- Check the clearance between the vehicle body and glass.
Lightly press the front surface of the back door glass to ensure that the back door glass is securely fit to the vehicle body.
Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.
- HINT:
- Apply adhesive onto the glass rim.
- NOTICE:
- Do not drive the vehicle within the time written in the table below.
- Minimum Time:
Temperature Minimum Time Prior to Driving Vehicle 35°C (95°F) 1 hour 30 minutes 20°C (68°F) 5 hours 5°C (41°F) 24 hours
5. INSTALL BACK DOOR TRIM BOARD ASSEMBLY |
Attach the 16 clips to install the back door trim board.
6. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS CHANNEL LH |
- HINT:
- When installing the back door glass channel LH, heat the vehicle body using a heat light.
- Standard:
Item Temperature Vehicle Body 40 to 60°C (104 to 140°F)
- NOTICE:
- Do not heat the vehicle body excessively.
Clean the vehicle body surface.
Using a heat light, heat the vehicle body surface.
Remove the double-sided tape from the vehicle body.
Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.
Install a new back door glass channel.
Using a heat light, heat the vehicle body.
Remove the peeling paper from the face of a new back door glass channel.
- HINT:
- After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.
Install the back door glass channel.
- HINT:
- Press the back door glass channel firmly to install it.
Install the 2 clips.
7. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS CHANNEL RH |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure described for the LH side.
8. INSTALL REAR SPOILER |
Attach the 4 clips to install the rear spoiler.
Install the 3 nuts.
- Torque:
- 7.8 N*m{80 kgf*cm, 69 in.*lbf}
Install the 2 grommets.
9. INSTALL REAR WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY |
Operate the rear wiper, and stop the rear wiper motor at the automatic stop position.
Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush.

Install the arm and blade with the nut. Make sure that the arm and blade comes to the position shown in the illustration.
- Torque:
- 8.4 N*m{86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf}
- HINT:
- Hold down the arm hinge by hand while tightening the nut.
- Install the arm and blade so that the rear wiper blade is aligned with the ceramic line.

Operate the rear wiper while spraying water or washer fluid on the glass. Ensure that there is no interference between the blade and pillar.
Close the wiper arm head cap.

10. CHECK FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR |
Conduct a leak test after the adhesive has completely hardened.
Seal any leaks with auto glass sealer.
11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
