Steering Column Assembly Disassembly
REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY
INSPECT STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
REMOVE TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER
REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER WITH SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY
REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER CLAMP
REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
REMOVE UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY
REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
REMOVE KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID
REMOVE STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Steering Column Assembly -- Disassembly |
1. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Place matchmarks on the steering main shaft and yoke.
Remove the bolt and yoke.
2. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Place matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and steering link.
Remove the bolt and intermediate shaft from the steering link.
3. INSPECT STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY |
Measure the length of the steering main shaft.
- Standard length:
- 385.0 mm (15.157 in.)
4. REMOVE TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER |
Using a screwdriver, widen the claw hanging onto the upper bracket by approximately 1.0 mm (0.039 in.).
Pull out the transponder key amplifier with the claw open.
5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER WITH SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY |
Using a 3 mm pin punch, mark the center of the 2 tapered-head bolts.
Using a 3 to 4 mm drill bit, drill into the 2 tapered-head bolts.
Using a screw extractor, remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER CLAMP |
7. REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY |
Turn the ignition switch lock cylinder to the ACC position.
Push down the stop pin with a screwdriver and pull out the ignition switch lock cylinder.
8. REMOVE UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the switch.
9. REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the switch from the steering column upper bracket.
10. REMOVE KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID |
Remove the 2 screws and solenoid from the steering column upper bracket.
11. REMOVE STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY |
Using a snap ring expander, remove the main shaft snap ring (outer side).
Using a brass bar and hammer, tap out the steering main shaft and steering main shaft bearing.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to drop the steering main shaft.
Using a snap ring expander, remove the steering main shaft snap ring (inner side).
