Thermostat Removal


  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)

  3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  6. REMOVE CHARGE AIR COOLER ASSEMBLY

  7. REMOVE COMPRESSOR INLET ELBOW

  8. DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE INLET

  9. REMOVE WATER INLET

  10. REMOVE THERMOSTAT

Thermostat -- Removal



1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag activation.


2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)
  1. Remove the 4 bolts and under cover.



3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
CAUTION:
Do not remove the radiator reservoir cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

  1. Drain the coolant by removing the reservoir cap and, using a wrench, remove the vent plug.



  1. Loosen the cylinder block drain cock plug and the radiator drain cock plug.

    HINT:
    Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
  1. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.

  1. Loosen the hose clamp.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner.



5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 3 bolts, 2 nuts and engine cover.



6. REMOVE CHARGE AIR COOLER ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the CAC (Toyota Fortuner RM0000015B9002X.html).



7. REMOVE COMPRESSOR INLET ELBOW

  1. Remove the bolt from the ventilation pipe.

  1. Move the clamp so that the hose can be disconnected.

  1. Disconnect the ventilation pipe from the cylinder head cover.

  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the turbocharger.

  1. Remove the harness clamp's clip from the inlet elbow.

  1. Remove the 2 nuts, inlet elbow and gasket.



8. DISCONNECT RADIATOR HOSE INLET
  1. Disconnect the hose from the water inlet.



9. REMOVE WATER INLET

  1. for Automatic transmission:
    Remove the bolt and disconnect the clamp.

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and inlet.



10. REMOVE THERMOSTAT
