Counter Gear And Reverse Idler Gear Installation
INSTALL COUNTER GEAR FRONT BEARING
INSTALL NO. 3 TRANSMISSION HUB SLEEVE
INSTALL COUNTER 5TH GEAR BEARING
INSPECT COUNTER SHAFT 5TH GEAR RADIAL CLEARANCE

1. INSTALL COUNTER GEAR FRONT BEARING |
Using SST and a press, press in a new front bearing to the counter gear.
- SST
- 09515-10010
Select a snap ring that will allow minimum axial play.
- Standard clearance:
- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.) or less
- Standard No. 2 counter gear front bearing snap ring thickness:

Using a snap ring expander, install the snap ring.
2. INSTALL NO. 3 TRANSMISSION HUB SLEEVE |
Coat the 5th gear with gear oil.
Install the No. 3 hub sleeve and 2 No. 3 synchromesh shifting keys to the 5th gear.
- NOTICE:
- Be sure to set the No. 3 hub sleeve and No. 3 synchromesh shifting keys to the 5th gear in the correct direction.
Install the key spring (C spring) and key spring (return spring) to the 5th gear.
Using a snap ring expander, install the snap ring to the 5th gear.
3. INSTALL COUNTER 5TH GEAR BEARING |
Coat the 5th gear bearing with gear oil, and install it to the 5th gear.
4. INSPECT COUNTER SHAFT 5TH GEAR RADIAL CLEARANCE |
Install the 5th gear thrust washer lock ball, 5th gear thrust washer and counter shaft 5th gear to the counter gear.
Using a dial indicator, measure the 5th gear radial clearance.
- Standard clearance:
- 0.008 to 0.034 mm (0.0003 to 0.0013 in.)
- If the clearance is not as specified, replace the counter 5th gear bearing.
