Park / Neutral Position Switch Installation


  1. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  2. CONNECT PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR

  3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  4. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION

  5. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION

  6. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

Park / Neutral Position Switch -- Installation



1. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Install the park/neutral position switch to the manual valve shaft.

  1. Temporarily install the bolt.

  1. Install a new lock washer and the nut.

    Torque:
    7.0 N*m{71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf}

  1. Push the control shaft rearward as much as possible.

  1. Return the control shaft lever 2 notches to the N position.

  1. Align the neutral basic line with the switch groove, and tighten the bolt.

    Torque:
    13 N*m{133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}
  1. Using a screwdriver, bend the tabs of the lock washer.

    HINT:
    Bend at least 2 of the lock washer tabs.


2. CONNECT PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR


3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


4. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
  1. Inspect the shift lever position (Toyota Fortuner RM0000013EW00AX.html).



5. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
  1. Adjust the shift lever position (Toyota Fortuner RM0000013EW00AX.html).



6. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
  1. Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch ON.

  1. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is on N or P, but does not start in other positions.

  1. Check that the back-up light illuminates and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is on R, but do not function in other positions.
