Vehicle Stability Control System -- Precaution

1.TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS
  1. When there is a malfunction with terminal contact points or problems with part installation, removal and installation of the suspected parts may completely or temporarily return the system to normal.

  2. In order to determine the malfunctioning area, be sure to check the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred, such as DTC output and the freeze frame data, and record them before disconnecting each connector or removing and installing parts.

  3. Since the system may be influenced by malfunctions in systems other than the VSC system, be sure to check for DTCs in other systems.

2.HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
  1. Do not remove or install VSC parts, such as the steering angle sensor or yaw rate sensor assembly, except when necessary, as they must be calibrated after removal or installation.

  2. Be sure to perform preparation before work and confirmation after work is completed by following the directions in the repair manual when working on the VSC system.

  3. Be sure to remove and install the ECU, brake actuator and each sensor, etc. with the ignition switch off unless otherwise specified in the inspection procedure.

  4. If the ECU, the brake actuator or a sensor has been removed and installed, it is necessary to check the system for problems after the parts have been reassembled. Check for DTCs using the intelligent tester, and also check that system functions and signals received by the ECU are normal using Test Mode.

3.DTC PRECAUTION
  1. Warnings for some DTCs will not be cleared by just replacing the defective parts. If a warning is still displayed after completing a repair, turn the ignition switch off before beginning the procedure for clearing DTCs.

    NOTICE:
If a part is still malfunctioning even after the DTC is cleared, the DTC will be stored again.

4.CHASSIS DYNAMOMETER PRECAUTION
When testing with a drum tester such as a speedometer tester, a combination tester for the speedometer and brake or a chassis dynamometer, or when jacking up the front wheels and turning the wheels, perform the following procedure to enter Inspection Mode and stop the TRC and VSC systems.
CAUTION:
Secure the vehicle with a lock chain for safety.
NOTICE:
When performing procedures related to VSC OFF switch operation, make sure that the system is in VSC OFF mode.
HINT:
The vehicle may move unexpectedly out of the dynamometer due to TRC and VSC operations.
  1. Activate Inspection Mode (when using the intelligent tester):

    1. Make sure that the ignition switch is off and the engine is stopped.

    2. for Manual Transmission:
Check that the shift lever is in neutral and apply the parking brake.
      for Automatic Transmission:
Check that the shift lever is in P.

    3. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    4. Start the engine.

    5. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Utility / Inspection Mode.

    7. Check if the slip indicator light in the combination meter comes on.

      HINT:
      1. If the slip indicator light in the combination meter does not come on, repeat the steps above.
      2. Turning the ignition switch off ends Inspection Mode.
  2. Activate Inspection Mode (when not using the intelligent tester):

    HINT:
Perform steps "C" to "F" within 30 seconds.

    1. Make sure that the ignition switch is off and the engine is stopped (Step "A").

    2. for Manual Transmission:
Check that the shift lever is in neutral and apply the parking brake (Step "B").
      for Automatic Transmission:
Make sure that the shift lever is in P and apply the parking brake (Step "B").

    3. Start the engine (Step "C").

    4. Depress and release the brake pedal twice or more (Step "D").

    5. Depress and hold the brake pedal, and then release and apply the parking brake twice or more (Step "E").

    6. With the parking brake applied, depress and release the brake pedal twice or more (Step "F").

    7. Check if the slip indicator light in the combination meter comes on (Step "G").

      HINT:
      1. If the slip indicator light in the combination meter does not come on in step "G", repeat steps "A" through "G".
      2. Turning the ignition switch off ends Inspection Mode.

5.CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS
  1. The CAN communication system is used for data communication between the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly), the steering angle sensor (spiral cable sub-assembly), the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (yaw rate sensor assembly) and other ECUs. If there are any problems in the CAN communication lines, corresponding DTCs for the communication lines are output.

  2. If any CAN communication line DTCs are output, repair the malfunction in the communication lines and troubleshoot the VSC system after data communication becomes normal.

  3. In order to enable CAN communication, a specific type of wiring is used for the CAN communication lines. The wiring used for each communication line is a twisted pair of wires that have an equal length. A bypass wire should not be used because the data being transmitted will be corrupted.
