AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 3UR-FE) - REMOVAL
| 1. PRECAUTION |
- NOTICE:
- After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work ().
| 2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected ().
| 3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH |
Remove the 3 bolts and screw.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly LH.
| 4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH |
Remove the 3 bolts and 2 screws.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly RH.
| 5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER |
Remove the 10 bolts and No. 1 engine under cover.
| 6. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER |
Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 engine under cover.
| 7. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly.
| 8. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID |
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 20 N*m{ 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf}
| 9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL FRONT RH |
Using a clip remover, remove the 3 clips and fender apron seal.
| 10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL REAR RH |
Using a clip remover, remove the 4 clips and fender apron seal.
| 11. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT |
- CAUTION:
- Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.
- HINT:
- Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.
Remove the radiator cap. Then drain the coolant from the radiator.
Loosen the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Then drain the coolant from the engine.
Tighten the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs.
- Torque:
- 13 N*m{ 133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}

Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
| 12. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the clip and pin and disconnect the gear shifting rod from the transmission control shaft lever RH.
| 13. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY |

| 15. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE |
()
| 16. REMOVE NO. 1 MANIFOLD STAY |
Remove the 3 bolts and No. 1 manifold stay.
| 17. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY |
Remove the 3 bolts and No. 2 manifold stay.
| 18. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE |
Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
Remove the dipstick.
Remove the bolt and dipstick guide.
Remove the O-ring from the dipstick guide.
| 19. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR |
Remove the 3 bolts and heat insulator.
| 20. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH |
Disconnect the connector and detach the wire harness clamp.
Remove the 8 nuts, exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH and gasket.
| 21. REMOVE STARTER COVER |
Remove the 3 bolts and starter cover.
| 22. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the starter connector.
Remove the nut and disconnect the starter wire.
Remove the 2 bolts and starter.
Remove the flywheel housing side cover.
| 23. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT |
Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.
| 24. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE |
Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler tube union.
| 25. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
- NOTICE:
- Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.
| 26. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the engine mounting hole cover.
Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.
Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember.
| 27. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR |
Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting heat insulator.
Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine No. 1 mounting insulator from the transmission.
| 28. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR |
Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
Tilt the transmission downward.
- NOTICE:
Remove the 4 wire harness clamps.
Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors, 2 speed sensor connectors and 3 transfer control connectors.
- HINT:
- Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
Detach the 4 connector clamps and 11 harness clamps.
| 29. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Do not use excess force to pry off the transmission assembly.
| 30. DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the 2 breather plug hoses from the harness clamp bracket.
Detach the 3 breather hose clamps from the automatic transmission breather tube.
| 31. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR |
Detach the clamp of the ground cable from the lower transfer case protector.
Remove the 7 bolts and lower transfer case protector.
| 32. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 8 transfer adaptor rear mounting bolts.
Pull the transfer straight up and remove it from the transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Take care not to damage the adaptor oil seal with the transfer input shaft spline.
| 33. REMOVE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET |
Remove the 8 bolts and 8 harness clamp brackets.
| 34. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY |
