REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY
DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A
REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C
DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE
REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY
REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY
REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT
DISCONNECT NO.2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ ATF Warmer)
DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/ ATF Warmer)
DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/o ATF Warmer)
SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/ ATF Warmer)
DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR
REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
REMOVE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
Automatic Transmission Assembly (For 1Ur-Fe) -- Removal |
- NOTICE:
- After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here).
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).
3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH |
Remove the 3 bolts and screw.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly LH.
4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH |
Remove the 3 bolts and 2 screws.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly RH.
5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER |
Remove the 10 bolts and No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly.
6. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER |
Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 engine under cover.
7. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly.
8. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID |
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 20 N*m{204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf}
9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A |
Remove the 3 clips and front fender apron trim packing A.
10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C |
Remove the 4 clips and front fender apron trim packing C.
- CAUTION:
- Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.
- HINT:
- Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.
Remove the radiator cap. Then drain the coolant from the radiator.
Loosen the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Then drain the coolant from the engine.
Tighten the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs.
- Torque:
- 13 N*m{133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}

Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
12. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the clip and pin and disconnect the gear shifting rod from the transmission control shaft lever RH.
13. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY |

Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.
17. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY |
Remove the 3 bolts and No. 2 manifold stay.
18. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY |

19. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT |
Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.
20. DISCONNECT NO.2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ ATF Warmer) |
Remove the bolt and disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler. Then disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass pipe from the automatic transmission assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.
21. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/ ATF Warmer) |
Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the transmission oil thermostat.
22. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/o ATF Warmer) |
Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler tube unions.
23. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
- NOTICE:
- Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.
24. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the engine mounting hole cover.
Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.
Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember.
25. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR |
Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting heat insulator.
Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine No. 1 mounting insulator from the transmission.
26. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR |
Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
Tilt the transmission downward.
- NOTICE:
- Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.
- Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
Remove the 4 wire harness clamps.
Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors, 2 speed sensor connectors and 3 transfer control connectors.
- HINT:
- Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
Detach the 4 connector clamps and 11 harness clamps.
27. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Do not use excess force to pry off the transmission assembly.
28. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/ ATF Warmer) |
Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler assembly with transmission oil thermostat.

Disconnect the transmission oil cooler assembly from the transmission oil thermostat.
Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil cooler assembly.
Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil thermostat.
29. DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the 2 breather plug hoses from the harness clamp bracket.
Detach the 3 breather hose clamps from the automatic transmission breather tube.
30. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR |
Detach the clamp of the ground cable from the lower transfer case protector.
Remove the 7 bolts and lower transfer case protector.
31. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 8 bolts.
Pull the transfer assembly straight up and remove it from the transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Take care not to damage the adaptor oil seal with the transfer input shaft spline.
32. REMOVE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET |
Remove the 8 bolts and 8 harness clamp brackets.
33. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY |
