HINT:
  1. For more information on the common rail system, refer to System Description (Click here).
  2. If DTC P0093 is present, refer to the "Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Table for Common Rail System" (Click here).
  3. When DTC P0093 is stored, check the internal fuel pressure of the common rail by entering the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Press.

    Reference
    Engine Speed
    Fuel Press
    Idling
    Approximately 27 to 37 MPa
    2500 rpm (No engine load)
    Approximately 50 to 70 MPa
  4. When there is an operating problem with the fuel supply pump (Fuel Press is less than Target Common Rail Pressure), the values of Injection Pressure Correction and Target Pump SCV Current will increase.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

  1. P0093 (Fuel leaks in high-pressure areas):
This DTC indicates that fuel leaks exist in highly-pressurized areas in the common rail system. The ECM constantly monitors the internal fuel pressure of the common rail after the engine is started. The ECM stores this DTC if the drop in the internal fuel pressure is large when the fuel is injected.
In the common rail system, high-pressure fuel is always supplied to the high-pressure areas including the fuel supply pump, common rail, fuel injectors, and piping. The ECM adjusts the suction control valve opening angle to obtain the desired fuel pressure.
If this DTC is stored, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. The fail-safe mode suspends both fuel injection and fuel supply pump operation, and then stops the engine. Before stopping the engine, the ECM permits the vehicle to be driven for 60 seconds. The fail-safe mode continues until the ignition switch is turned to off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
  1. After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization (Click here).
  2. After replacing the fuel supply pump, the ECM needs initialization (Click here).
  3. After replacing the fuel injector, the ECM needs registration (Click here).
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0093)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

  1. Read the DTCs.

2.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FUEL LEAK TEST)
HINT:
By performing this Active Test, the engine speed is maintained at 2000 rpm and the common rail internal fuel pressure is raised to the maximum operating pressure. As a result, a fuel leak check can be conducted while retaining the high common rail pressure.
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Start the engine and turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Test the Fuel Leak.

  1. Visually check the fuel supply pump, fuel injector and fuel line located between the fuel supply pump and common rail for fuel leaks and fuel pressure leaks. Also, perform the same check on the fuel line between the common rail and the fuel injector.

    OK:
    No leakage.

3.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FUEL LEAK TEST)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Start the engine and turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Test the Fuel Leak / Data List / Fuel Press and Target Common Rail Pressure.

  1. When the Active Test is started, check that Fuel Press follows Target Common Rail Pressure and that the fuel pressure increases.

    OK:
Fuel pressure reaches target pressure within 1 second.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. After warming up the engine (engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or more), idle the engine (A/C off and electrical load off) for 1 minute or more.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Injection Feedback Val #1 to #8.

  1. Read the values.

    OK:
Compensatory injection volume is between -3.0 mm3/st to 3.0 mm3/st.
    HINT:
