INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)

CHECK SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

REPLACE FUEL FILTER ELEMENT ASSEMBLY

REPLACE SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

BLEED AIR FROM FUEL SYSTEM

PERFORM SUPPLY PUMP INITIALIZATION

CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

Trouble Area
Drive vehicle at high speed or with heavy load (Use freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred as reference while driving)
All of following conditions are met (1 trip detection logic):
  1. The engine speed is more than 1400 rpm.
  2. The vehicle speed is more than 10 km/h (6.25 mph).
  3. The fuel temperature is 110°C (230°F) or more.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization (Click here).
HINT:
  1. If DTC P0180, P0182 and/or P0183 is stored at the same time as P0168, the fuel temperature sensor may have an open or short circuit. Troubleshoot those DTCs first.
  2. Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Read the DTCs.

    HINT:
    If DTCs other than P0168 are output, perform troubleshooting for those codes first.

2.CHECK SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

  1. Perform a visual inspection of the exterior of the supply pump assembly and check that there are no fuel leaks.

    OK:
    There are no fuel leaks or stains.

Go to step 4

3.REPLACE FUEL FILTER ELEMENT ASSEMBLY

  1. Replace the fuel filter element assembly (Click here).

4.REPLACE SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

  1. Replace the supply pump assembly (Click here).

5.BLEED AIR FROM FUEL SYSTEM

  1. Bleed the air from the fuel system (Click here).

6.PERFORM SUPPLY PUMP INITIALIZATION

  1. Perform the supply pump initialization (Click here).

7.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Clear the DTCs (Click here).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Fuel Temperature.

  1. Drive the vehicle in a city area and check that the value of Fuel Temperature does not exceed 110°C (230°F).
