Trouble Area
B1865/65
When one of the following conditions is met:
  1. The center airbag sensor receives a line short circuit signal 5 times in the front passenger side knee airbag squib circuit during the primary check.
  2. A front passenger side knee airbag squib malfunction.
  3. A center airbag sensor malfunction.
  1. Instrument panel wire
  2. Front passenger side knee airbag assembly (Front passenger side knee squib)
  3. Center airbag sensor assembly
B1866/65
When one of the following conditions is met:
  1. The center airbag sensor receives an open circuit signal in the front passenger side knee airbag squib circuit for 2 seconds.
  2. A front passenger side knee airbag squib malfunction.
  3. A center airbag sensor malfunction.
  1. Instrument panel wire
  2. Front passenger side knee airbag assembly (Front passenger side knee squib)
  3. Center airbag sensor assembly
B1867/65
When one of the following conditions is met:
  1. The center airbag sensor receives a short circuit to ground signal in the front passenger side knee airbag squib circuit for 0.5 seconds.
  2. A front passenger side knee airbag squib malfunction.
  3. A center airbag sensor malfunction.
  1. Instrument panel wire
  2. Front passenger side knee airbag assembly (Front passenger side knee squib)
  3. Center airbag sensor assembly
B1868/65
When one of the following conditions is met:
  1. The center airbag sensor receives a short circuit to B+ signal in the front passenger side knee airbag squib circuit for 0.5 seconds.
  2. A front passenger side knee airbag squib malfunction.
  3. A center airbag sensor malfunction.
  1. Instrument panel wire
  2. Front passenger side knee airbag assembly (Front passenger side knee squib)
  3. Center airbag sensor assembly
HINT:
Vehicles that are not equipped with knee airbag still contain knee airbag circuits and use substitution parts in replace of the knee airbag. If a malfunction occurs in this knee airbag circuit, DTC B1865/65, B1866/65, B1867/65 or B1868/65 is stored.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
  1. After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here).
  2. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).
HINT:
To perform the simulation method, enter the check mode (signal check) with the intelligent tester (Click here), and then wiggle each connector of the airbag system or drive the vehicle on various type of road (Click here).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Disconnect the connector from the front passenger side knee airbag.

  1. Connect the white wire side of SST (resistance: 2.1 Ω) to connector C.

    CAUTION:
Never connect the tester to the front passenger side knee airbag (front passenger side knee squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.
    NOTICE:
    1. Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting SST.
    2. Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.
