Charging System -- Data List / Active Test

READ DATA LIST
HINT:
Using the GTS to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.
NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

  5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

    Charging Control
    Tester Display
    Measurement Item/Range
    Normal Condition
    Diagnostic Note
    Battery Voltage
    Battery voltage/0.000 to 66.000 V
    11 to 14 V
When the value is outside of the specified range, there may be a problem with the battery
    Alternator Output Duty
LIN1 terminal output (charge control signal)/0.0 to 399.9%
Changes in response to generator power generation amount during charging control
If the value does not change as specified, there may be a malfunction in the charging control system
Alt Vol - Non Active Test
Request voltage when regulator not under forced activation/0.000 to 79.998 V
    -
Malfunction of the charging control system can be the cause of malfunction
    Alt Vol - Active Test
Request voltage when regulator under forced activation/0.000 to 79.998 V
    -
Malfunction of the charging control system can be the cause of malfunction
Previous Trip Alternator Max Output Time
Generator maximum generating time during previous drive/0 to 65535 sec.

PERFORM ACTIVE TEST
HINT:
Using the GTS to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

  5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.
