DTC P161A LIN Communication Error with Alternator


DESCRIPTION

The ECM and generator assembly each detect reception malfunctions. A generator assembly reception malfunction detected by the generator assembly is sent to the ECM via LIN communication. If there is a malfunction in either the ECM or generator assembly, the ECM determines that there is a LIN communication malfunction and outputs a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM
  1. Check the charging system (Click here).

REPAIR OR REPLACE CHARGING SYSTEM
OK


2.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - GENERATOR ASSEMBLY)
  1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Disconnect the generator assembly connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance (Check for Open):

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    C45-25 (LIN) - D23-2 (LIN)
    Always
    Below 1 Ω

    Standard Resistance (Check for Short):

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    C45-25 (LIN) or D23-2 (LIN) - Body ground
    Engine switch off (while LIN communication is stopped)
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reconnect the generator assembly connector.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.
