Steering Angle Sensor Installation

Turn the ignition switch off.

Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

NOTICE:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

Attach the 3 claws and install the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.

NOTICE:

When replacing the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

Connect each connector to the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.

Connect the airbag connector and check that the slider is in the lock position.

NOTICE:

If the slider is not in the lock position, the airbag connector is not completely connected. Disconnect the airbag connector, check the airbag connector and spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly terminals and connector housings for deformation or foreign matter, and then reconnect the airbag connector.

Check that the ignition switch is off.

Check that the cable is disconnected from the battery negative (-) terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

Check the check window shown in the illustration.

HINT:

When the spiral cable is centered, the connector is at the top and align the matchmarks to check the U-turn point of the cable from the check window.

If the spiral cable is not centered, center it.

1. While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.

   Interlock

   NOTICE:

   1. When rotating the spiral cable, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.
      
   2. Do not turn the spiral cable using the airbag wire harness.
      




2. While pushing on the interlock, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise from the lock position to align the matchmarks and check the check window.
   

   HINT:

   1. The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.
      
   2. When the spiral cable is centered, the connector is at the top and align the matchmarks to check the U-turn point of the cable from the check window.

   If the spiral cable cannot be centered, it is possible that the spiral cable is broken. Replace the spiral cable with a new one.
