  1. PRECAUTION

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  3. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  4. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

Knee Airbag Assembly (For Hatchback) -- Removal


CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (YARIS_NCP93 RM000000KT10EAX.html).


1. PRECAUTION
NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (YARIS_NCP93 RM00000482M008X.html).


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


3. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER
  1. Release the tilt lever, and fully extend and lower the steering column.

  1. Remove the screw from the lower portion of the lower steering column cover.

  1. While turning the steering wheel to the right and left, remove the 2 screws.

  1. Disengage the 3 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.



4. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 2 <A> screws.

  1. Disengage the claw and the guide and remove the instrument panel under cover.



5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
  1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

  1. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    CAUTION:
    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts.

  1. Disengage the 6 claws to separate the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

  1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, release the locking button.

  1. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.
