Differential Oil Seal (For Sedan) -- Replacement |
1. DRAIN MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL |
Remove the filler plug and the gasket.
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and then drain the manual transaxle oil.
2. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH |

Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the drive shaft.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not damage the inboard joint boot.
- Do not drop the drive shaft.
3. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH |

Using SST, remove the drive shaft.
- SST
- 09520-01010
09520-24010(09520-32040)
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not damage the inboard joint boot.
- Do not drop the drive shaft.
4. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE OIL SEAL |
Using SST, remove the transmission case oil seal.

5. REMOVE TRANSAXLE CASE OIL SEAL |
Using SST, remove the transaxle case oil seal.

6. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE OIL SEAL |
Coat the lip of a new oil seal with MP grease.

Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.

- 9.4 to 10.4 mm (0.370 to 0.409 in.)
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal lip.
7. INSTALL TRANSAXLE CASE OIL SEAL |
Coat the lip of a new oil seal with MP grease.

Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.

- 1.4 to 2.0 mm (0.055 to 0.078 in.)
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal lip.
8. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH |
- HINT:
- The installation procedure for the RH side is the same as that for the LH side.
9. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH |
for Automatic Transaxle:
Coat the spline of the inboard joint with ATF.
for Manual Transaxle:
Coat the spline of the inboard joint with gear oil.
Align the inboard joint splines and install the drive shaft with a screwdriver and hammer.
- NOTICE:
- Face the cut area of the front drive inboard joint hole snap ring downward.
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not damage the inboard joint boot.
- HINT:
- Confirm whether the drive shaft is securely driven in by checking the reaction force and sound.

10. ADD MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL |
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf}
Add manual transaxle oil.

Install the transmission filler plug and a new gasket.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf}
11. INSPECT MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL |

Stop the vehicle in a level place.
Remove the transmission filler plug and the gasket.
Check that the oil surface is within 5 mm (0.20 in.) of the bottom of the transmission filler plug opening.
- NOTICE:
- Excessively large or small amounts of oil may cause problems.
- After replacing the oil, drive the vehicle and check the oil level again.
Check for oil leakage when the oil level is low.
Install the transmission filler plug and a new gasket.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf}
