PRECAUTION
DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER
REMOVE STEERING PAD
REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER
REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER
REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VSC)
REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o VSC)

- CAUTION:
- Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (YARIS_NCP93 RM000000KT10EAX.html).
1. TURN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (YARIS_NCP93 RM00000482M008X.html).
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER |
Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the lower No. 2 steering wheel cover.

Check that the ignition switch is off.
Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
Using a "TORX" driver, push in the 3 snap rings to disengage it from the 3 pins.
- NOTICE:
- Lightly hold the steering pad to prevent it from falling.
Pull the steering pad toward rear.
- NOTICE:
- When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the 2 locking buttons.
Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

Disconnect the horn terminal.
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.

Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.
Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

- NOTICE:
- Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.
7. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER |
Remove the 3 screws.
Disengage the 4 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.
8. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER |
Disengage the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.
9. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VSC) |

Disconnect the horn connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
Slide the slider and disconnect the airbag connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
Disconnect the steering sensor connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
Disengage the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
- Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
- Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).
- Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
- If there is a malfunction in the steering sensor, replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with steering sensor.
10. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o VSC) |

Disconnect the horn connector from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
Slide the slider and disconnect the airbag connector from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
Disengage the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
- Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
