Shift Lock System -- On-Vehicle Inspection



1. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION

  1. Move the shift lever to the P position.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

  1. Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from the P position to any other position.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, depress the brake pedal and check that the shift lever can be moved to other positions.
    If operation cannot be performed as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.



2. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION

  1. When operating the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the lever can be moved to any position other than the P position. If the operation cannot be performed as specified, check the shift lever assembly.



3. INSPECT KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

  1. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to any position other than the P position. Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK position.

  1. Move the shift lever to the P position, turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and check that the ignition key can be removed.
    If the results are not as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit.



4. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT ASSEMBLY

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    HINT:
    Do not disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.
    Standard voltage:
    Terminal

    6 (ACC) - 1 (E)
    		Ignition switch in the ON position
    		11 to 14 V
    6 (ACC) - 1 (E)
    		Ignition switch in the ACC position
    		11 to 14 V

    		Ignition switch OFF
    		Below 1 V
    4 (STP) - 1 (E)
    		Brake pedal depressed
    		11 to 14 V
    4 (STP) - 1 (E)
    		Brake pedal released
    		Below 1 V
    5 (KLS+) - 1 (E)
    		Ignition switch in the ACC position and shift lever P position
    		Below 1 V
    Ignition switch in the ACC position and shift lever except P position (Within approx. 2 seconds)
    		7.5 to 11 V
    Ignition switch in the ACC position and shift lever except P position (After approx. 2 seconds)
    		6 to 9.5 V
    8 (IG) - 1 (E)
    		Ignition switch in the ON position
    		11 to 14 V
    8 (IG) - 1 (E)
    		Ignition switch OFF
    		Below 1 V

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    HINT:
    Do not disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.
    Standard resistance:
    Terminal
    		Measuring Condition
    		Specified Condition
    1 (E) - Body ground
    		Always
    		Below 1 Ω
    If the result is not as specified, replace the shift lock control ECU.
