Rear Brake Disassembly

  1. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD

  2. REMOVE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM

  3. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE

  4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE

  5. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH

  6. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN

  7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSH

  8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT

  9. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT

  10. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON

  11. REMOVE PISTON SEAL

  12. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG

  13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

  14. REMOVE REAR DISC

Rear Brake -- Disassembly


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The procedures listed below are for the LH side.


1. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD
  1. Remove the 2 disc brake pads.



2. REMOVE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM
  1. Remove the shims from each pad.



3. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE
  1. Remove the indicator plates from the pads.



4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE
  1. Remove the 2 plates from the brake cylinder mounting.



5. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and cylinder mounting.



6. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN

  1. Remove the 2 pins (upper and lower) from the mounting.



7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSH

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the slide bush from the slide pin (lower).

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to damage the pin.
    HINT:
    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.


8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT

  1. Remove the 2 boots from the mounting.



9. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT

  1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the set ring and boot.

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to damage the brake piston and cylinder.
    HINT:
    Tap the screwdriver tip before use.


10. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON

  1. Place a piece of cloth between the piston and disc brake cylinder.

  1. Apply compressed air to remove the piston from the disc brake cylinder.

    CAUTION:
    Do not place your fingers in front of the piston when applying compressed air.
    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to spatter the brake fluid.


11. REMOVE PISTON SEAL

  1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the seal from the cylinder.

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to damage the inner cylinder and piston seal groove.
    HINT:
    Tap the screwdriver tip before use.


12. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap and bleeder plug from the cylinder.



13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG
  1. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug from the rear disc.



14. REMOVE REAR DISC

  1. Put matchmarks on the disc and axle hub.

  1. Release the parking brake.

  1. Turn the shoe adjuster until the disc turns freely, and then remove the disc.

  1. Install the shoe adjusting hole plug to the rear disc.
