DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY
PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (LOWER)
REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- CAUTION:
- Be sure to read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing it (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000KT106QX.html).
| 1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- NOTICE:
- w/ Navigation System for HDD:
- After the ignition switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately a minute to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch off, wait a minute or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
| 2. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY |
for 1AZ-FE, 2AZ-FE
Remove the steering pad assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001DNP00UX.html).
for 3RZ-FE
Remove the steering pad assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001DNP00SX.html).
| 3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
| 4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
Remove the nut and place matchmarks on the steering wheel and steering column.
Using SST, remove the steering wheel.
- SST
- 09950-50013(09951-05010,09952-05010,09953-05020,09954-05021)
- NOTICE:
- Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.
| 5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (LOWER) |
Detach the 4 claws, release the tilt lever and remove the lower steering column cover.
Detach the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.
| 6. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Rise the steering column cover (upper).
- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.
Detach the 4 clips and remove the column cover (upper).
Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.
