INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CAUTION:

The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the Precaution in the Supplemental Restraint System (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFC05IX.html).

1. Check if the illumination for the navigation receiver assembly, steering pad switch, glove box or other parts (hazard switch, transmission control switch, etc.) comes on when the light control switch is turned to the HEAD or TAIL position.
   
   

   Result

   Result	Proceed to
   Illumination comes on for all components except steering pad switch.	A
   Illumination comes on for all components except navigation receiver assembly.	B
   No illumination comes on (navigation receiver assembly, hazard switch, glove box, etc.).	C

1. Disconnect the E10 spiral cable connector.
   

2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Voltage:

   Tester Connection	Switch Condition	Specified Condition
   E10-12 (IL+2) - Body ground	Light control switch in TAIL or HEAD	11 to 14 V

1. Remove the steering pad switch assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001H7K00HX.html).
   

2. Connect the positive (+) lead of the battery to terminal 5 (IL+2) and the negative (-) lead to terminal 8 (EAU) of the steering pad switch connector.
   

   
   
   
   

3. Check if the illumination for the steering pad switch comes on.
   

   OK:

   Illumination for the steering pad switch assembly comes on.
   

1. Remove the spiral cable sub-assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001DNS00EX.html).
   

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Resistance:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   8 (EAU) - 4 (EAU)	Centered	Below 1 Ω
   	Rotated 2.5 times to the left
   	Rotated 2.5 times to the right
   5 (IL+2) - 12 (IL+2)	Centered	Below 1 Ω
   	Rotated 2.5 times to the left
   	Rotated 2.5 times to the right

   CAUTION:

   The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the Precaution for SRS (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000KT106QX.html).

   1. Disconnect the E106 navigation receiver assembly connector.
      

   
   
   

   2. Disconnect the E10 spiral cable connector.
      

   3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      

      Standard Resistance:

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      E106-6 (SWG) - E10-4 (EAU)	Always	Below 1 Ω
      E106-6 (SWG) - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher

   1. Disconnect the E56 navigation receiver assembly connector.
      

   
   
   

   2. Disconnect the E10 spiral cable connector.
      

   3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      

      Standard Resistance:

      Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
      E56-6 (SWG) - E10-4 (EAU)	Always	Below 1 Ω
      E56-6 (SWG) - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher

1. Disconnect the E52 navigation receiver assembly connector.
   

2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Voltage:

   Tester Connection	Switch Condition	Specified Condition
   E52-10 (ILL+) - Body ground	Light control switch in TAIL or HEAD	11 to 14 V
