INSPECTION PROCEDURE

INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY

INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - SPIRAL CABLE)

AUDIO AND VISUAL SYSTEM - Steering Pad Switch Circuit

DESCRIPTION

This circuit sends an operation signal from the steering pad switch to the radio receiver assembly.
If there is an open in the circuit, the audio system cannot be operated using the steering pad switch.
If there is a short in the circuit, the same condition as when the switch is continuously depressed occurs.
Therefore, the radio receiver assembly cannot be operated using the steering pad switch, and the radio receiver assembly itself cannot function.

  1. Remove the spiral cable (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001DNS00EX.html).

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:
    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    4 (EAU) - 8 (EAU)
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise
    Below 1 Ω
    Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
    6 (AU1) - 10 (AU1)
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise
    Below 1 Ω
    Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
    5 (AU2) - 9 (AU2)
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise
    Below 1 Ω
    Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
    NOTICE:
The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the Precaution for the SRS (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000KT106QX.html).
