  1. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT SERVICE HOLE COVER

  2. REMOVE ENGINE OIL

  3. REMOVE OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

  5. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT

  6. INSTALL OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

  7. ADD ENGINE OIL

  8. CHECK FOR ENGINE OIL LEAKS

  9. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

  10. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT SERVICE HOLE COVER

Oil Filter -- Replacement


NOTICE:
  1. Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will result in the loss of natural oil from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.
  2. Wear protective clothing and gloves. Avoid contact with used oil. If contact occurs, wash the area thoroughly with soap or waterless hand cleaner. Never use gasoline, thinners, or solvents to wash the skin.
  3. In order to protect the environment, dispose of used oil and used oil filters at designated disposal sites only.


1. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT SERVICE HOLE COVER

  1. Remove the 3 screws from the oil filter element service hole cover.



2. REMOVE ENGINE OIL

  1. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket, and drain the engine oil into a container.



3. REMOVE OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

  1. Using SST, remove the oil filter cap assembly.

    SST

    HINT:
    Use a container to catch the draining oil. After the oil filter cap is loosened approximately 4 turns and the cap ribs are vertical, engine oil drains from the gap between the oil filter cap and oil pan.


4. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

  1. Remove the oil filter element and the O-ring from the oil filter cap assembly.



5. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT

  1. Clean the inside of the oil filter cap assembly, the threads and O-ring groove.

  1. Apply a small amount of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the oil filter cap assembly.

  1. Set a new oil filter element in the oil filter cap assembly.

  1. Remove any dirt or foreign matter from the installation surface of the engine.

  1. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the O-ring again.



6. INSTALL OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

  1. Using SST, tighten the oil filter cap assembly.

    SST
    09228-06501
    Torque:
    40 N*m{408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf}
    NOTICE:
    Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.


7. ADD ENGINE OIL

  1. Install the oil pan drain plug with a new gasket.

    Torque:
    38 N*m{388 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf}

  1. Add engine oil according to the table below.

    Standard capacity:
    Item
    		Capacity
    Drain and refill with oil filter change
    		6.0 liters (6.3 US qts, 5.3 lmp. qts)
    Drain and refill without oil filter change
    		5.2 liters (5.5 US qts, 4.6 lmp. qts)
    Dry fill
    		6.7 liters (7.1 US qts, 5.9 lmp. qts)


8. CHECK FOR ENGINE OIL LEAKS

  1. Start the engine. Make sure that there are no oil leaks from the connection point of the oil filter cap assembly.



9. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL


10. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT SERVICE HOLE COVER


    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20

  1. Install the oil filter element service hole cover with the 3 screws.
