  1. INSTALL SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH

  2. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  3. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  4. INSTALL STEERING PAD

  5. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER

  6. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER

  7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

  9. INSPECT STEERING PAD

  10. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT

Shift Paddle Switch -- Installation



1. INSTALL SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH


    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20.A960E Automatic Transmission.Automatic Transmission System.Shift Paddle Switch  Installation
  1. Install the 2 shift paddle switches and 2 brackets with the 4 screws.

    Torque:
    1.7 N*m{17 kgf*cm, 15 in.*lbf}
    NOTICE:
    Make sure that the brackets are securely installed.

  1. Connect the 2 switch wire connectors to the shift paddle switches.

  1. Install the connector to the steering wheel assembly.

  1. Install the clamp to the steering wheel assembly.



2. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Check that the engine switch is off.

  1. Check that the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.

    CAUTION:
    After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.

  1. Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor counterclockwise slowly by hand until it feels firm.

    NOTICE:
    Do not turn the spiral cable with steering sensor by the airbag wire harness.

  1. Rotate the spiral cable with steering sensor clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.

    NOTICE:
    Do not turn the spiral cable with spiral sensor by the airbag wire harness.
    HINT:
    The spiral cable with steering sensor will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.


3. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft assembly.

  1. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut.

    Torque:
    50 N*m{510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf}


4. INSTALL STEERING PAD

  1. Support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.

  1. Connect the 2 connectors to the steering pad.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
  1. Connect the horn connector.

  1. Confirm that the circumference groove of the "torx" screw fits in the screw case, and place the steering pad onto the steering wheel assembly.

  1. Using a "torx" socket wrench (T30), tighten the 2 "torx" screws.

    Torque:
    8.8 N*m{90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf}


5. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER


    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20
  1. Install the steering wheel No.3 cover lower.



6. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER


    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20
  1. Install the steering wheel No.2 cover lower.



7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal
(Click here).


9. INSPECT STEERING PAD

  1. With the steering pad installed on the vehicle, perform a visual check. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the steering pad with a new one:

    1. Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the steering pad top surface or in the grooved portion.
  1. Make sure that the horn sounds.

    HINT:
    If the horn does not sound, inspect the horn system (Click here).


10. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
  1. Inspect the SRS warning light (Click here).
