Clearance Sonar System -- System Description

GENERAL
  1. This system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles at the corners and the rear of the vehicle. The system then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by indicating them on the multi-display or multi-information display and by sounding a buzzer.

FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS

Components
Function
Ultrasonic sensor (6)
Detects the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
Clearance warning buzzer
Sounds the buzzer to inform the driver according to the distance to the obstacle
Multi-information Display on the Combination Meter
Displays the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
Displays a malfunction or freezing of the ultrasonic sensor to inform the driver
The multi-information display is switched to the multi-switch mode by the satellite switch operation. Then, LEXUS parking assist-sensor ON/OFF condition will be displayed
LEXUS Parking Assist-Sensor Indicator Light on the Combination Meter
Illuminates to inform the driver when the system operation conditions are met
Satellite Switch
Operating this switch enables disenables, or cuts off the operation of LEXUS parking assist-sensor
Multi-display
Displays the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle
The sound volume and sounding distance of the buzzer and display requirement distance can be set on the setup screen for the LEXUS parking assist-sensor
Clearance Warning ECU
Judges the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle based on the signals from the ultrasonic sensors and sends it to the multi-information display and multi-display
Sounds the buzzer
Body ECU (LH)
Transmits the reverse signal to the clearance warning ECU
Body ECU (RH)
Transmits the parking brake switch signal to the clearance warning ECU
ECM
Transmits the shift position signal to the clearance warning ECU

OPERATION EXPLANATION
  1. The operating condition of each LEXUS parking assist-sensor differs according to the installation position as shown in the table bellow.

    Installation Position
    Operating Condition
    Front Corner Sensor
    Engine switch ON (IG)
    Satellite switch is ON
Shift position is except P (A/T)
Parking brake is not applied (M/T)
Vehicle speed is approx. 6 km/h (10 km/h) or less
    Rear Corner Sensor
    Engine switch ON (IG)
    Satellite switch is ON
    Shift position is R (A/T)
Buck-up light switch in ON (M/T)
Vehicle speed is approx. 6 km/h (10 km/h) or less
    Rear Center Sensor
    Engine switch ON (IG)
    Satellite switch is ON
    Shift position is R (A/T)
Buck-up light switch in ON (M/T)
Vehicle speed is approx. 6 km/h (10 km/h) or less

  2. The LEXUS parking assist-sensor then informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles as well as their positions by displaying them on the multi-information display in the combination meter or multi-display and by sounding buzzer.
