Fuel Pump -- Removal |
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
2. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY |
Detach the 2 front hooks of the seat cushion from the vehicle body.
- NOTICE:
- Follow the instructions below carefully as the cushion frame deforms easily.
Choose a hook to detach first. Place your hands near the hook as shown in the illustration. Then lift the seat cushion to detach the hook.
Repeat for the other hook.

Detach the 2 rear hooks of the seat cushion from the seatback.
Remove the seat cushion.
3. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 FLOOR SERVICE HOLE COVER |
Remove the rear No. 2 floor service hole cover and disconnect the fuel suction tube connector.

4. REMOVE FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE TUBE ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the connector from the fuel suction with pump and gauge assembly.

Disconnect the fuel pump tube.
- NOTICE:
- Before beginning this procedure, check for foreign matter on the joint clips. Clean if necessary.
Widen the tip of the 2 tube joint clips and pull out the clip in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Remove the No. 1 fuel tank main tube and No. 2 fuel tank suction tube.
- NOTICE:
- Keep the O-rings free of foreign matter, as they will become contaminated easily.
- Do not use any tools in this procedure.
- Do not forcefully bend or twist the tube.
- Put the tube in a plastic bag to prevent it from becoming contaminated or damaged.
- If the fuel suction plate and tube are stuck together, pinch the tube and turn it carefully to disconnect it.
- Be careful not to damage any clips. If a clip is damaged, replace it.
Widen the tip of the 2 tube joint clips and pull out the clip in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Remove the 2 tube joint clips, No. 2 fuel main tube and fuel tank suction tube.
- NOTICE:
- Keep the O-rings free of foreign matter, as they will become contaminated easily.
- Do not use any tools in this procedure.
- Do not forcefully bend or twist the tube.
- Put the tube in a plastic bag to prevent it from becoming contaminated or damaged.
- If the fuel suction plate and tube are stuck together, pinch the tube and turn it carefully to disconnect it.
- Be careful not to damage any clips. If a clip is damaged, replace it.
Remove the 8 bolts and the fuel tank vent tube set plate.
- HINT:
- While holding the fuel suction tube by hand, remove the fuel tank vent tube set plate.

Disconnect the No. 2 fuel hose.

Remove the fuel suction tube from the fuel tank.
- HINT:
- Make sure that the fuel sender gauge arm does not bend.
- Do not damage the No. 2 fuel hose.
Remove the fuel suction tube set gasket.
5. REMOVE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY |
Unlock and then slide the fuel sender gauge to remove it.

6. SEPARATE FUEL SUCTION PLATE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the fuel suction filter as shown in the illustration.

Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with tape, disengage the 4 snap claws from the claw holes, and pull out the fuel suction plate.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the fuel suction support.

Using a screwdriver with the tip taped, disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel filter.

Disconnect the fuel pump connector.

7. REMOVE FUEL PUMP HARNESS |
Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector from the fuel suction plate(*1).

Using a screwdriver, pry out the fuel pump harness (*2).
8. REMOVE FUEL RETURN JET TUBE |
Press down on the return jet housing claw. Then slide the return jet housing upward.

Using a screwdriver with the tip taped, remove the jet pump from the return jet housing.
- NOTICE:
- The O-ring is installed firmly between the jet pump and return jet housing. Therefore, the jet pump and return jet housing should be removed carefully using a screwdriver.

Remove the O-ring.

9. REMOVE FUEL PUMP |
Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 5 claws.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the fuel pump filter.
- Do not remove the suction filter.

Pull out the fuel pump from the fuel filter assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the O-ring surface.
- Do not use either the fuel pump or the suction filter if the suction filter is removed from the fuel pump.

Remove the O-ring.
10. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL SUCTION SUPPORT |
Remove the No. 2 fuel suction support from the fuel pump.

11. REMOVE CUSHION RUBBER |
Remove the cushion rubber from the fuel pump.

12. REMOVE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY |
Using a screwdriver, pry out the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel filter assembly.

Remove the O-ring from the fuel pressure regulator.
