Instrument Panel Safety Pad -- Removal |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
- The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.
1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT |
- HINT:
- All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.

2. PRECAUTION |
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (LandCruiser RM000004KI4013X.html).
- NOTICE:
- Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.
- HINT:
- Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.
Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (LandCruiser RM000003YMF011X.html).
4. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY |
Remove the headlight dimmer switch assembly (LandCruiser RM000003QJL01EX.html).
5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH |
for Manual Seat:
Remove the front seat assembly (LandCruiser RM00000465Y00YX.html).
for Power Seat:
Remove the front seat assembly (LandCruiser RM00000467200XX.html).
6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH |
for Manual Seat:

Remove the front seat assembly (LandCruiser RM0000046B800AX.html).
7. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR FOOTREST |
for LHD:
Remove the front floor footrest (LandCruiser RM0000046JI00IX_01_0001.html).
for RHD:
Remove the front floor footrest (LandCruiser RM0000046JI00IX_01_0002.html).
8. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY |
for Automatic Transmission:
Remove the rear console box assembly (LandCruiser RM0000046JD008X.html).
for Manual Transmission:
Remove the rear console box assembly (LandCruiser RM0000046N6006X.html).
w/ Refrigerated Cool Box:
Remove the rear console box assembly (LandCruiser RM0000046MR00KX.html).
for Bench Seat Type:
Remove the rear console box assembly (LandCruiser RM000004ZXY004X.html).
9. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH |

Put protective tape around the door scuff plate.
Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips, 10 claws and 2 guides and remove the door scuff plate.

Detach the 3 guides and remove the front pillar garnish.
w/ Curtain Shield Airbag:
Protect the curtain shield airbag assembly.Completely cover the airbag with a cloth or nylon sheet and secure the ends of the cover with adhesive tape as shown in the illustration.
- NOTICE:
- Cover the curtain shield airbag with a protective cover as soon as the front pillar garnish is removed.

Remove the 4 bolts and airbag assembly.

- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY |

Detach the 4 claws, 2 clips and 2 guides and remove the instrument cluster finish panel.
28. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 4 screws and combination meter assembly.

Disconnect the 2 connectors.

33. REMOVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU |

Remove the bolt and 4 wheel drive control ECU.
34. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System) |

Detach the 10 clips and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel.
Disconnect each connector.
35. REMOVE RADIO TUNER OPENING COVER (w/o Audio) |

Remove the 4 bolts and radio tuner opening cover.
36. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (w/ Radio Receiver) |
Remove the 4 bolts.

Pull the radio and display receiver assembly to detach the 7 clips on the backside of the radio and display receiver assembly.

Disconnect each connector and remove the radio and display receiver assembly.
37. REMOVE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY (w/ Navigation System) |
Remove the 4 bolts.

Pull the navigation receiver assembly to detach the 7 clips on the backside of the navigation receiver assembly.

Disconnect each connector and remove the navigation receiver assembly.
38. REMOVE LOWER CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o CRAWL) |

Remove the 2 bolts <E>.
Detach the 3 clips and guide and remove the lower center instrument cluster finish panel.
39. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER MODULE SWITCH (w/ CRAWL) |
Remove the 2 bolts.

Detach the 3 clamps and remove the center cluster module switch.
Disconnect the connector.
40. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL |

Detach the 8 clips and 2 guides and remove the upper instrument cluster finish panel.
41. REMOVE FRONT NO. 4 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 2 screws.

Disconnect the connector and remove the front No. 4 speaker assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Do not touch the cone of the speaker.
42. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY |

43. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY |

Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips, claw, and 2 guides and remove the No. 1 instrument panel speaker panel.

45. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure described for the No. 1 instrument panel speaker panel.
46. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 2 screws.

Disconnect the connector and remove the front No. 2 speaker assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Do not touch the cone of the speaker.
47. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY |
for LHD:
Partially remove the floor carpet.
- HINT:
- It is not necessary to fully remove the floor carpet. Partially remove it so that the No. 2 instrument panel wire can be removed in a later step.
Remove the 6 bolts <E> and nut <F>.
Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts <G>.
Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 brackets.
Disconnect the connectors and detach the clamps and claws.
Detach the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel safety pad.

for RHD:
Partially remove the floor carpet.

- It is not necessary to fully remove the floor carpet. Partially remove it so that the No. 2 instrument panel wire can be removed in a later step.
