Front Air Conditioning Unit Removal


  1. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL

  2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  5. DISCONNECT AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY (for Bolt Joint Type)

  6. DISCONNECT AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY (for Quick Joint Type)

  7. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE AND HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE

  8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY

  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

  11. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH

  12. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH

  13. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR CARPET ASSEMBLY

  14. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 AIR DUCT

  15. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT

  16. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT

  17. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE MOUNTING BRACKET LH

  18. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE MOUNTING BRACKET RH

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  20. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  21. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY

  22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY

Front Air Conditioning Unit -- Removal


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
  2. The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.


1. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL
  1. Remove the 13 clips and upper radiator support seal.



2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
  1. Start the engine.

  1. Operate the cooler compressor under the conditions shown below:

    Item
    Condition
    Engine Speed
    Idling
    Operating Time
    3 minutes or more
    A/C Switch Status
    On
    Blower Switch Status
    HI
    Set Temperature
    MAX COOL
    This causes most of the compressor oil from the various components of the A/C system to collect in the A/C compressor.
    NOTICE:
    It is not necessary to operate the cooler compressor if the A/C does not operate because of compressor lock, etc.
  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system using a refrigerant recovery unit.

    HINT:
    Use the refrigerant recovery unit in accordance with the manufacturer's instruction manual.


3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
  1. for 1GR-FE:
    Drain the engine coolant (LandCruiser RM0000017DS04RX_01_0001.html).

  1. for 1KD-FTV:
    Drain the engine coolant (LandCruiser RM000002SLF01FX_01_0001.html).

  1. for 2TR-FE:
    Drain the engine coolant (LandCruiser RM0000017H5010X_01_0001.html).

  1. for 5L-E:
    Drain the engine coolant (LandCruiser RM000003WIU00GX_01_0002.html).

  1. for 1GD-FTV:
    Drain the engine coolant (LandCruiser RM00000419K013X_01_0005.html).



4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
  1. After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work. (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html)
  2. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (LandCruiser RM000003YMF011X.html).


5. DISCONNECT AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY (for Bolt Joint Type)

  1. Remove the 2 bolts.

  1. Disconnect the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly.

    Disconnect tube by hand
    NOTICE:
    1. Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool to disconnect the tube.
    2. Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.
  1. Remove the grommet.

  1. Remove the 2 O-rings from the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly.



6. DISCONNECT AIR CONDITIONING TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY (for Quick Joint Type)

  1. Using SST, remove the piping clamp.

    1. Attach SST to the piping clamp.

      HINT:
      Confirm the direction of the piping clamp claw and SST by referring to the illustration on the caution label.

    3. Push down SST and release the clamp lock.

      NOTICE:
      Be careful not to deform the tubes when pushing SST.
    4. Pull SST slightly and push the release lever, then remove the piping clamp with SST.

    5. Remove the piping clamp from SST.

    6. Disconnect the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly.

      NOTICE:
      Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture or dirt out of the system.
  1. Remove the grommet.



7. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE AND HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE


  1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clips and slide the 2 clips.

8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY

9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly (LandCruiser RM0000046J800OX.html).



10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
  1. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
    Remove the steering column assembly (LandCruiser RM0000039SI031X.html).

  1. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
    Remove the steering column assembly (LandCruiser RM0000039SI030X.html).



11. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
  1. for Manual Seat:
    Remove the front seat assembly LH (LandCruiser RM00000465Y00YX.html).

  1. for Power Seat:
    Remove the front seat assembly LH (LandCruiser RM00000467200XX.html).

  1. for Walk in Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat assembly LH (LandCruiser RM0000046B800AX.html).

  1. for Bench Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat assembly LH (LandCruiser RM00000390S018X.html).



12. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH
  1. for Manual Seat:
    Remove the front seat assembly RH (LandCruiser RM00000465Y00YX.html).

  1. for Power Seat:
    Remove the front seat assembly RH (LandCruiser RM00000467200XX.html).

  1. for Walk in Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat assembly RH (LandCruiser RM0000046B800AX.html).

  1. for Bench Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat assembly RH (LandCruiser RM00000390S018X.html).



13. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR CARPET ASSEMBLY
NOTICE:
It is not necessary to fully remove the floor carpet. Partially remove it so that the rear air duct can be removed in a later step.


14. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 AIR DUCT

  1. Detach the 3 clamps and 6 claws and remove the rear No. 3 air duct.



15. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT

  1. Detach the 3 clamps and 6 claws and the rear No. 1 air duct.



16. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT

  1. Remove the 2 nuts, bolt and No. 1 instrument panel brace mounting bracket LH.

  1. Remove the 2 nuts, bolt and No. 1 instrument panel brace mounting bracket RH.



19. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Detach the 3 claws and No. 1 air duct sub-assembly.



20. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the screw.

  1. Detach the 2 claws and remove the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.



21. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY


  1. Disconnect the clamps and connectors.

  1. Remove the bolts, nuts and wire harness.

  1. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement assembly with air conditioning unit assembly.

    1. Remove the 5 caps.

    2. Using a T40 "TORX" socket, remove the 5 "TORX" bolts.

    3. Using a 8 mm hexagon wrench, loosen the 2 collars.

    4. Remove the bolts, nuts and the instrument panel reinforcement assembly with air conditioning unit assembly.



22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY


  1. Detach the 2 claws and remove the 5 bolts and instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
