DTC P0013 Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1) |
DESCRIPTION
- These DTCs are designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the duty-cycle for the camshaft timing oil control valve is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.
- The VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system adjusts the exhaust valve timing to improve driveability. The engine oil pressure turns the camshaft actuator to adjust the valve timing. The camshaft timing oil control valve is a solenoid valve and switches the engine oil line. The valve moves when the ECM applies 12 V to the solenoid. The ECM changes the energizing time of the solenoid (duty-cycle) in accordance with the camshaft position, crankshaft position, throttle position, etc.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION
These DTCs are designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly for (exhaust side) circuit. If the duty-cycle for the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
- Wait 5 seconds or more.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the pending DTCs.
- HINT:
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0013.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
GTS Display
| Description
|
NORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System normal
|
ABNORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System abnormal
|
INCOMPLETE
| - DTC judgment completed
- Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions
|
N/A
| - Unable to perform DTC judgment
- Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit
|
- HINT:
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs.
Turn the ignition switch off.
Allow the engine to idle and check DTCs.
Check that P0013 is output.
- OK:
- P0013 is output.
2.INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) |
Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust Side) (LandCruiser RM000000Q74059X.html).
3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) - ECM) |
Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) connector.
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
