PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (OPERATE OCV)

INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR INTAKE SIDE OF BANK 1, 2)

INSPECT OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER AND OIL PIPE

REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY

CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0016 OR P0018)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Read the DTCs.

2.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (OPERATE OCV)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Start the engine and turn the GTS on.

  1. Warm up the engine.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT System (Bank 1) or Control the VVT System (Bank 2).

  1. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the GTS.

    OK:

    GTS Operation
    		Specified Condition
    OCV OFF
    		Normal engine speed
    OCV ON
    		Engine idles roughly or stalls soon after camshaft timing oil control valve assembly switched from off to on

Go to step 4

3.CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM

  1. Check the engine mechanical system (LandCruiser RM000002BK3041X.html).

4.INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR INTAKE SIDE OF BANK 1, 2)

  1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for Intake Side of Bank 1, 2) (LandCruiser RM000000Q7405AX_01_0001.html).

5.INSPECT OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER AND OIL PIPE

  1. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe or No. 2 oil pipe.

  1. Remove the oil control valve filter RH or oil control valve filter LH.

  1. Check that the oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged.

    OK:
    The oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged.

  1. Reinstall the oil control valve filter RH or oil control valve filter LH.

  1. Reinstall the No. 1 oil pipe or No. 2 oil pipe.

6.REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY

  1. Replace the camshaft timing gear assembly (LandCruiser RM000003B6X01KX.html).

    HINT:
    for Automatic Transmission
    Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing gear assembly (LandCruiser RM000004NJC03SX.html).

7.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

  1. In order to clear the ECM learned values for valve timing, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for 1 minute.

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  1. Clear the DTCs (LandCruiser RM000000PDK1DIX.html).

  1. Start the engine and idle it for 5 minutes.

  1. Drive the vehicle in an urban area for approximately 10 minutes.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending.

  1. Read the DTCs.

    OK:
    DTCs are not output.
