INSPECTION PROCEDURE

CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)

CHECK FUEL SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

CHECK FUEL SYSTEM

REPLACE FUEL SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

BLEED AIR FROM FUEL SYSTEM

PERFORM FUEL SUPPLY PUMP INITIALIZATION

CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

DTC P0168 Fuel Temperature Too High

Trouble Area
Drive vehicle at high speed or with heavy load (Use freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred as reference while driving)
All of following conditions are met (1 trip detection logic):
  1. The engine speed is more than 5000 rpm.
  2. The vehicle speed is more than 10 km/h (6.25 mph).
  3. The fuel temperature is 96°C (205°F) or higher for the specified time.
  1. Fuel cooler (Problem cooling fuel)
  2. Fuel lines or fuel filter clogged

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

  1. Read the DTCs.

    HINT:
    If DTCs other than P0168 are output, perform troubleshooting for those codes first.

2.CHECK FUEL SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY
  1. Perform a visual inspection of the exterior of the fuel supply pump assembly and check that there are no fuel leaks.

    OK:
    There are no fuel leaks or stains.

Go to step 4

3.CHECK FUEL SYSTEM
  1. Check if dirt is clogging the fuel cooler cooling fins. Clean the fins if they are clogged with dirt.

    HINT:
    If the fuel cooler cooling fins are not clogged with dirt, replace the fuel filter.

4.REPLACE FUEL SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY
  1. Replace the fuel supply pump assembly (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000014FO01RX.html).

5.BLEED AIR FROM FUEL SYSTEM
  1. Bleed the air from the fuel system (HILUX_TGN26 RM000002SY8025X_01_0002.html).

6.PERFORM FUEL SUPPLY PUMP INITIALIZATION
  1. Perform fuel supply pump initialization (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000TIN04EX.html).

7.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Clear the DTCs (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDK0XCX.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temperature.

  1. Drive the vehicle in a city area and check that the value of Fuel Temperature does not exceed 110°C (230°F).
